THE BEE: NRS, PAUL'S ALIMONY FIXED Twenty Dollars a Month Till Supreme #Court Makes Ruling. v — PERMANENT AMOUNT IS $1,200 This Is Sdtl.’o—-t on the Aetion of | the Highes Couet, to Which Mrs. Panl’s Lagyer Will Ap- peal Case, Formal entry and signature of the decrce of divoroe between John 8. Paul and Mra. Nellle Paul took place in district court today, and Mrs. Paul was granted tem- porary alimony of §20 a month. Mrs. Paul will also have use of the house belonging to John Paul, in which she has been living all through the period of the divorce pro- ceedings. An appesl to the supreme court in behalt;of Mrs. Paul will be the next chapter. Later in the day the court made 8D order of permanent alimony In the sum of $1,200. Mrs. Paul's counsel protested against the allmony allowance, declaring it unreason- ably small. Counsel for plaintiff objects to any alimony grant at all. Judge Troup's formal dgcree covers the same ground &s his oral finding at the n. of the tridl sometime ago. Thé former Florence banker is given the decree on the ground of cruelty, and the para- graph on_ the infidélity charge states that whatever possible doubt there Is should be resolved in favor of the defendant. Judge Troup again refuses to state that ho specifivadly finds Mrs. Paul innocent of this charge.- In- submitting & decree for approval of the court, Mrs. Paul's counsel included @ statement to the effect that Mrs. Paul was cleared of this charge, and the court: rejected this, ! When signics the decree Judge Troup | remarked fn answer to counsel's protest: “Many and many a woman has been de- clared unfaithful by courts on far less evi- dence than there ls against this woman.’ Counsel -for Mrs, Paul in arguing the amount of alimony. declared: “The sum of $20 a month ls only %240 for a whole year. This sum will allow Mrs. Paul % cents a week for clothing, for fuel, light and water, 20 cents a week, and for car fare 10 cents & week. Assuming that she must pay §10 & year to a physiolan and $10 for repairs to the house, this would leave her foi food only $#0.68 or about 4% cents,a meal.” Jurors Are Paid at End of Service Get Cash fcr Work Soon as Done | First Time in History of | the County. For the first time in the history of Doug- | las county jurors were pald Monday In | cash as soon as service to the county had been completed. , Those whose ‘“service’ was ended were fourtéen men who got Judge Button to. excuse them. The law requires that they bé piid for one day for simply reporting and the fourtéen mi prompt appearance in the office of the dis- tylct clerk. D. C. Patterson was the first in. Mr. Patterson was so prompt, that the clerk's office ;was not yet ready to pay out and Mr. Patterson had to wait. The sult to enjoin the clerk which war- rant scalpers talked. ol has,not yet been | brought. - There I8 a disagreement between the men in the business as to by whom the suit shall be started, each being willing that any other than himself shall appear 88 plaintiff and stand the costs it defeated, to say nothing,of the attorneys’, fees.
