NEW YORK, Dec. 12—The -Hamilton and Ottawa, Ont, foot ball teams, two of the leading clubs of Canada gave an exhibition game of Rugby as played in Canada, at Van Courtiandt park Saturday | afternoon, before the best American foot ball suthorities. The game has been heralded by some as the successor of the American college foot ball as now played Hamilton wom., 11 to 5. The rules committee of the American Collegiate Foot Ball association meets in this eity during Christmas week, and it is expected that its members. mearly all of whom witnessed the game today, will con- sider & revision of the rules, bearing mind the rugby game. There seemed 1o be a consensus of opinion that the open play and entire absence of mass play in the rugby game is responsible for the few sccidents which have resuited. The game is divided into four cusrters of fifte wminutes each. The teams exchange goais |between quarters and there was a ten- minute intermission between the second and third quarté®' One Ottawa man was elightty Rurt in the first five minutes of | play, but after that mot a player was jurcd- until mear the end of the ocontest, wher in fast and stremumous playing three {men weré-retired.
