THE BEE: OMAHA, WEDNESDAY, JULY 28, 1909 Omaha Wins From Lincoln; Pirates Beat Reds; Cubs and Cardinals Tie; Wood Leads Go}fers LINCOLY EASILY DEFEATED Omaha Goes Back Into Second Place, Des Moines Losing. TWELVE VISITORS DIE ON BASES Hollenbeek Eftective in Pinches, and Only One Tally Reg! Prohibs—Pendry Star 6f Game. Omaha, §; Lincoln, 1 Back In second place. Those prohibitioniste from Lincoln were | forced to take their medicine In the open- ing game of the series with the Rourkes. and because Des Moines also lost, Omaha went back into the second place, which was taken away Monday Captain Fox had chosen Farthing Wesleyan university southpaw, the opening game, and he started as though he was going to try to repeat the dose which Biersdorfer had handed out the day befors, when Omaha was shut out. Lin- coln made one in the opening round, but Omaha could not connect right untll the third inning, and from that time on quite a comfortable lead was acoumulated. Lineoln scored its only run by a series of circumstances, With one eut, Fox sin- gled, and when Holly threw to eatch him leading off first the ball went wide and Foxy Fox was soon perehing on third. ‘Waldron drew a pass and Fox scorsd on Thomas' single. Holly had several close calls for some more scores, but that was all which the Prohibitionists could cash in. They had twelve men left on bases, two on three alfferent occastons and three in the elghth, but Holly got stingy and would not let them have any more. For three innings Farthing pitched groat ball, but in the fourth he was a tritle wild, and the Rourkes took advantage of it King was first up, and walted for four wide ones. Welch popgpd out in trying to eacrifice and Kane was hit. Schipke scored them both with a drive to center tield. Holly drew a pass in the fifth, but died at second on Fisher's attempted sacrifice. A passed ball put Catfish on second and Pendry drove one past Jack Thomas, on which Fisher scored. Pendry stole second, and after King had walked, he and King negotiated a double steal. Gagnier muffed the throw to second and Pendry came on home, The fourth cinched the game for Omaha, and four runs were made after two were down. Cadman walked and Holly hit safe. Fisher and Pendry followed with doubles, and Pendry went to third on the throw to cateh Fisher at the plate, King drew a pass and Pendry stole home when King the coaxed a throw to second Lincoln again this afternoon. The | boosters started after Chabek in a flerce | manner. In the first flve safe ones were made off his slants, and yet the best they uld do was two rune. In the fourth Niehoff scored a homer and Willlams dou- bled. Willlams scored on Smith's error off Lang's grounder. Holmes would take no further chances with his chubby twirler and sent Alderman out He proved a stumbling block, only two hits being made off him during the balance of the game. The run in the seventh was a gift on an attempted double steal. Lang at times pitched remarkable ball. Only Alderman's great twirling In the pinches saved the game. The bases were full in the eighth and only one down. He settled and struck out the next two men. Score: SIOUX CITY. AB. R H O A B, Campbell, 1.
