The receipts for the week foot up over 17,000 head, being a slight falling off as compared with last week, but a gain of about 10,000 head as compared with the corresponding week of last vear. A feature of the week's rui has been the large proportion of good, heavy cattle that have been recei In epite of the fact that the price of corn has been high, it s very evident from the number of finished heavy cattle arriving that feeders have practiced less economy in the matter of feeding corn than might be_expected under existing conditions Owing to the fact that all market points have been very liberally supplied with heavy beef steers In the face of a small export demand, the market on that kind of ecattle throughout the week has been dull_and prices locally are 10@isc lower. Handy light and medium weight cattle of good quality have been in moderate supply throughout” the week, and as they have been niost sought after by buyers, prices on that kind_have been fully stéady or even strong. The trade on this latter kind of cattle has been active at this point every day throughout the week, while heavy caitle have been more or letss of a drag. Cows and heifers, especially the better kinds, have been free sellers all the week, without any materlal change In current figures. On the other hand, common to medium grades have shown a little weak- ness and are around 10c lower than one week ago. The supply of stockers and feeders has been_ extremely light all the week. While the demand has not been very large, there have been a few buying orders and more than could be filled. A& might be expected under such conditions, the feeling on the market has been very strong and the tendency & littlé higher although on most days there have been hardly enough cattle to make a test of the market or establish uotatio 9uotations on cattle: Good cholce corn-fed steers, $6.4 fair to good corn-fed steers, $6.00 common to_fair cornfed steers, $.000 00d to cholce cows and heifers, 8.4 fair to good cows and heifers, $4.5005.4); common to falr cows and heifers, $2.5004.60; good to | cholce stockers and feeders, $4.40@5.50; fair to good stockers and feeders, $4.0004 common to fair stockers and feeders, $3.00 @4.00; stock helfers, $3.25G4.40; veal calves, $4.0007.25; bulls, stags, etc., $3.50G6.50. HOGS—The market this morning opened slow to fc lower and quite a number of hogs sold on that basis, later on, under the influence of a good buying demand and encouraging advices from other selling points, the market took on more life and strength, becoming active and strong to Bo higher than yesterday.’ The early ar- rivals were all disposed of in good season in the morning. A considerable proportion sold at inside the range, $6.906G1.20. Recelpts of hogs this w have been very liberal, showing a gain of over 15,000 head, as compured with last week and' of 27,000 head as compared with two weeks and 11,00 head as compared with a year ago. 'fhe market has fluctuated to a Cconsiderable extent. Thus at the beginning of the week it eased off a little, but ad- vanced sharply on Tuesday and was con- siderably higher on Wednesday. Thursday was the high point of the week, hogs sell- ing that day the highest of the year, which means the highest of any time since March, 1%3. Constans, and the Russian am- | bassador, M. Dienovieff, was due to the discovery In the Yildiz palace records that Abdul Hamid had pald M. Constans 2,000 Turkish pounds monthly and M. Dienovieft 1,000. The cablnet, the correspondent says, forthwith Informed the Paris and St Petersburg governments, which ordered the recall of the ambassadors. He adds that the payments were effected through Pan- | #irt Bey, one of the directors of the Otto- man back, who recently disappeared. According to the correspondent the archives also contained compromising let- ters and recelpts for money signed by Klamil Pasha, grand vigler, which led to his arrest, and he asserts that evidence against Ferrid Pasha, former minister of the interlor, was found, and this started a violent agltation In favor of foreing him to retire from the cabinet. “It is also proved,” the correspondent says In conclusion, “that Tewfik Pasha, ex-grand visler, and now ambassador at London, played a double role. So many of the members of the old regime were be- smirched by Abdul Hamid's archives that the Young Turks are agitating publicly the placing of all power in new hands.
