The Salvation Army ald not furnish a general dinner, as is Its usual custom, this Thanksgiving day, but the day was not forgotten hy them. Collactions of food and ! clothing, fuel. etc, had been made, and these were distributed to many poverty- stricken homes throughout the city, in or- der that Thanksgiving day should be one of thanksgiving indeed. The dlstribution of food, fuel and clothing has continued all day by the Salvation Army people. Tast evening a speclal Thankegiving ‘mervice was held at Army headquarters, corner of Seventeenth and Douglas streets, at which Brigadier Cousins presided. St the City Jafl, The prisoners at the clty jall were re. galed during the afternoon with a genuine Thanksgiving dinner, provided by the city authorities, which good cheer indicated to them that even they were not 'flr[fl"'n though behind the bars. Regular dinner or | lunch with Its proverblal soup was served at noon, and then about 3 o'clock the main feast of the day came. The menu com- prised chicken, mashed potatoes, hot slaw, rice pudding, mince ple and half a dozen varieties of cake, with coffeo or tea as pre- ferred. The feast was served most appe- tisingly and the prisoners enjoyed it im- mensely and wore given all they desired. The viands were furnished through the regular contractors for feeding the prison- ers and were warmed up in the fail kitchen, Forty men were fed. \ At County Hospital, About 200 inmates of the Douglas Ceunty hospital were entertalned yesterday with a Thanksgiving dinner of all the good things of Thanksgiving time, No speclal pro- Wram was observed, other than to see that BRIl should enjoy themselves according to ‘the custom and traditions of the day, par- ‘tioularly In the discussion of the turkey foast and its conventional accessories of tranberry sauce, mince ples, eto. At the County Jail, Thanksgiving invaded the county jall at noen in the form of a bountiful feast for the ninety-seven prisoners of roast goose, granberry sauce, ‘mince ples, etc., coffee, milk and sugar and all the accessories to make the feast enjoyable and appetizing. To these were added cider and cigars, Three long tables were set in the main corridors, and one for the “bound over prisoners in another apartment. There was an abundance of Thanksgiving cheer and Sheriff Power and his assistants were ra- dfent With good humor and did everything possible to make the unfortunates under their charge forget their miseries for the day at least. At 4 o'clock in the afternoon devotional services were held at the jail under the auspices of the Wonfen's Chris- tlan Temperance union department having this Im-l work in charge.
