Mulr, an attor- ney, were surprised when they recelved eards announcing his marriage to Mfss Helen F. Close, who for seven years has been principal of the Webster school on the Bouth Side. The wedding took place July %, 1896, at Kenosha, Wis, but wae kept secret. Mr. and Mrs Mulr were play- mates In their childhood days and both were students at the University of Michi- gan. Aften graduating Miss Close came to Chicago and secured a position In tho public schools, where she was soon ap- pointed principal. In 156 Mulr also came to Chicago and engaged In the practice of law. The two met and the old friendship was rerewed. A few months later the wedding took place, but it was thought ad- visable to keep it secret, as Mrs. Mulr was anxious to retaln her position in the school.—Chicago Record-Herald ot Afr It was a question of dining In that restau- rant or going hungry, and I foolishly chose not to go hungry. When the young woman waiter brought my soup I said, with what 1 thought was fine sarcasm: “Aren't you afrald of scalding your thumb?"* “Naw,” she grinned, “’tain’t as bot as all that."=—Brooklyn Eagle.
