Despite the compromise between the councll and the Board of Public Works concerning the street and sewer gangs, there is no liklihood of ‘any public work being done this week. The list of names can hardly be sent to the mayor for ap- proval before Saturday morning, as the transcribing in the clerk's office will re- quire most of today. According to Géneral ¥oreman Hummel it will require from a half to & full day to get the men up and ready for work. There I8 'no certalnity that the mayor will aprove the list of names or any part of it. He refuses to make known what he will do about it. A rumor was current about the city hall this morning that he would refvse to confirm the 427 names, or & number ¢f them because the council had Atspleased him by adopting a resolution authoriging the building inspector to name his own assistant and. clerk. Proposals for repairing all the damaged asphalt paving in the city will be opened by the Board of Public Works, Monday, June 15. Maceabees' Joint Memarial Services. The Knights and Ladles of the Macca- bees will hold joint memorial servies at 8 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Odd Fellows hall, South Omaha. The Rev.
