The strikers regard this as a signal victory. When this engine belonging to the Mil- waukee was put in use Mouday by the Union Pacific, strikers took exception, in- terpreting it as an attempt on the part of the Milwaukee to aid. the Unlon Pacifio in its struggle, but officials of both roads gave out the assuring information that the en- gine was brought simply as a test of the At- lantic type of locomotive of which the Unlon Pacific intended buying a . number. This did not satisty, however, and the strik- ers, through President McNell and Pres! dent James O'Connell of the International Assoclation of Machinists at Washingto: demanded that the emgine be withdrawn.
