No. 3-Numerous calls "were made last week for stenographers and bookkeepers. The demand is constantly increasing. We know of three or four ex- cellent positions still unfilled, If you want to fit youreelf for a mercantile position the_Omaha Commercial College Is the place to do It. 3 POINTER No. 4-Our Telegraph Department still increases in nufber. We have had several calls for operators, This department is the best equipped of its kind in any western school. Telegraph operators are in great demand. POINTER No. 6—It is often a query why the most prom'nent etenographic and bookkeeping positions in Omaha, South Omaha and Council Bluffs are filled by our stue ts_and why the Itldln’ business men always look to the Omaha Commercial College for their help. The following reasons may be assigne 1. The work done for years in all departments has been thorough. 2. The equipment In all departments have been the best. 3. Inexperienced instructors have never been employed and advertised as experts. When old students return they find the same old teachers in their place: rof. Mosher has had e of the Shorthand and Typewriting Department for seventeen ars. er has been his assistant in this de- partment for eight years, 'of. Bavi been identified with the institution for more _than five years. Mr. Graff b charge of Telegraphy for more than four yea M. G. and G. A. Rohrbough have been permanently connected with the institution for eighteen years. 'he efficlency of teachers, like lawyers, doctors and ministers, is increased by long years of experience. POINTER No, 6—To those desiring a course in Shorthand and Typewritin want to make a few suggestions 1. The system of shorthand you learn is portant. 2. The prestige of the &chool ought not to be ignored. 3. It will pay you to place yourseif under teache: f long experience. It you desire to secure a posi. tion when through, by all means attend a school ving the recognition of the bes mercantile establishments and whose training is so thorough as to warrant your holding a position when obtained POINTER No. 7-Pitman, Graham, Munson and Gre Shorthand are npt the most modern and up to date systems. This we can prove. Pitman, Munson and Graham are all extremely aificult to r, because of being encumbered with shaded oket different position: many slants, hundreds of rules and thousands of word-sign While the Gregg stem 18 free from these objections, it Is in- sufficlently developed to justify students in learning it, at least o long as something better may be had. Brevity in the ON:J ystem is only obtained at the expense of legibility. Gregg writers are compelled to drop terminations, in order to acquire speed, thus rendering their notes extremely difficult to read. We have something better to offer our students, namely: Mosher Shorthand, or, as often called, ‘‘Im- roved Gregg.” It differs from all other eystems in the following particulars: . It is easy to learn, eawy to read, s extremely rapld and possesses the legibllity of long hand. If you want to make a stenographer out of yourself it will plr you to Investigate. Those who write the Mosher system are having phenomenal euc- cese and are rendering such superior service as to command the highest salaries pald. Arthur K. Lee, who spent six months In our S8horthand Department, studying the Mosher system, accepted a_position with the Union Pacific Rallroad company at Cheyenne at $0 per month. He has been with the company about three months, but his services have been #o superior as to justify the company in raising his salary to $930 per vear. If he had undertaken to learn a Pitmanic system he would still be in school memorizing word-signs, learning hundreds of rules and their excep- tions. Our sympathy goes out to the poor, unfortunate Pitmanic student. Before selecting a stem of shorthand It will pay you to inveéstigate. It will save you both time and money. A catalogue of the college will be sent free to any address, Rohrbough Bros., Omaha, Neb, SOME PLAIN TRUTHS About the SHORTHAND REVOLUTION The Gregg system has completely revolutionized shorthand and In the past three years it has been adopted by more schools than are teaching all other systems combined. Gregg Shorthand has gained its pre-eminence by the force of its intrinsic value—by its superiority as a practical reporting instrument and by the enthusiastic advocacy of Its writers. THE REPORTING SYSTEM OF THE FUTURE. At a recent convention of shorthand teachers a young man of 21 wrote 225 words on new matter in one minute In Gregg Shorthand and read back his notes correctly; and at the medical convention in Cleveiand two young men—one 2 years of age and the other 2—were engaged as ’Mcul reporters and their work was declared by the doctor in charge to be superiof to that of congressional and other reporters employed In recent years. From this it will be seen that young Gregg writers can do as good, and sometimes better, work than men who have used old-time methods from twenty to forty years. e A CORRECTION Referring to some notes which appeared in the Phonographic World, Rohrbough . brothers in their advertisement in last unday's “The Gregg notes were written by Pearl Power, thor of the Gregg sy: and principal teacher of the Gregg school, Chicago. tatements contained in this sentence are oclate author of Gregg Shi fact, he is not employed In teaching. She is & young lady, 31 years o Wwho s em- loyed in the of of the Gregg Publishing company. In the November number of Phe’ Stenographer-an independent shorthand magazine published in Philadelphia— the editor of the law department describes Miss Power's writing as ‘‘wide-space, off-hand, easy-flowing characters—JUST SUCH AS ONE WOULD EXPECT TO FIND IN A COURT REPORTER'S NOTES ON_ A RAPID-FIRE CROSS-EXAMINA- TION.” We gladly invite comparison of Miss Powers writl or the writing of any other 1)]0 writer of Gregg Shorthand,, with the carefully drawn and cramped outlines of Mosher, which are lnlnflel!l{ written with an effort to crowd as much as possible into a small space without regard to ease of execution. WHAT THEY SAY AFTER EUYING A BOOK. Méssrs Rhorbough state that several writers of Gregg Shorthand have bought the Mosher book. ~ Well, if Messrs, Rohrbough continue ‘to use Gregg Shorthand to bolster up the pretentions of ‘“Mosher Shorthand” we will have great pleasure in printing some quotations from the many letters recelved from Gregg writers and teachers who have seen the Mosher book. They will make very interesting reading. Here is an_extract from one recelved yes terday, which may serve as an example: “I have taken the time to go through the Mosher book pretty thoroughly and am reatly surprised to think any one who had taught the Pitmanic system as long as fir. h would go back to the old impracticable ways. It is worse than the old origl Pltman, to my mind. It seems to me that if the student were successful in getting those hooks and circles and diphthongs flattened and rounded and lengthened, just as Mosher gives them in the book. he would surely be a wonder. 1 doubt if Mr. Mosher can do it himself. ¢** The exercises for students’ ractice are very limited and his explana tions of the exercises are even more lim- ted than the exercise accurate as might be expec and and is not principal teacher in the Gre age, TO THE INTENDING SHORTHAND STUDENT. ou declde to study Gregg Shorthand, attend some reliable school teaching 1t tram the CREVISED BBITION " which contains all the lutest improvements of the tem, endorsed by thousands of practical writers and teachers. Above all things, do not waste time, money and effort on a cl umsy, inefficient imitation of Gregg Short- and which has been repudiated by exper fenced and practical writers and which, b; e nicety ecution required to execu te the imp ticable expedients Introduces by the “author,’ will limit your efficlency to the lowest grade of stenographic work.
