THE OMAHA DAILY BEE: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 27, 1902. COMMERCIAL AND FINANCIAL Bull Influence Sucoumbs to Bearish Ele- ments and General Trend is Lower. CORN RETREATS AFTER EARLY UPTURN ' Wheat Trade Dull and Weakness Fol- lows tial Firmness Hog Products Are Fairly Active, CHICAGO, Aug. 2.—All_markets had a downward trend today. Fine weather in the northwest, where the spring wheat harvests are exerllng a big influence on world prices, and 10 possibilit creased movement, worked the ige off of wheat. Corn seemed to e been ov bought on the fear of s ity for n contracts. Good crop reports did the res and sympathy influenced down-turns in other pits. At the close September wheat was %@%c lower, Beptember corn Yc off and Beptember olLl c down. Provisions closed e up to be d Teade T wheat was & dull, Jageing attatr for some time. There were ocdasional spurts of activity, but in general the trad- ers simply allowed prices to slip away gradually on the influence of the north- tern markets. There had been fair weather in the spring country for twenty- four hours and predictions were for & con- tinuation of the favorable condition bles were indifferent, weather being Bne both in England and France and the s demand was disappointing. Cool wes ar in the northwest, together with poor grad- ing here and lighter receipts of wheat probably was the reason why there was no heavy selling pressure in wheat. Cash stuff northwest was as much as 1l4c lower and the demand was slow. Minneapolls and Duluth were not getting much wheat, but there were prospects of an increased move- ment. September here started a shade to c lower at T8 e and slowly fell to Tile, closing woak, e lower, at L recelpts were 4 ars, one of de, and Minneapolts and Duluth reported cars, making a total for the three points of 769 cars, against 672 last week and 1,089 a year a Prlmlr‘ Te- celpts were 1,198,000 bu., compared to 1,81, a year ago. Beaboard clearances In wheat and flour equalled 360,000 bu. The world's visible supply decreased 1,906,000 bu. There was a limited demand early for Beptember corn, on the influence of higher cables and poor al grading. Stocks were falling off. Rains also retar« jed the matur- ing corn. These factors started a little bull movement early and September corn once more sold at 8c. The pit, however, soon took on a heavy aspect. In the enthusiasm during the last bull turn it seemed that too much stuff had been taken on. Holders “of_in- $22.00G24 pnmea belifes, $8.759.
