J. St. John, who was killed in a collision between a Union Pacific switch engine and a motor car at Thir- teenth and Marcy streets, Sunday after- noonm, places the blame of the accident on the crew of the switch engine. After glving the time and place of St. John's Qeath, the verdict read: “The collision was due to the negligence and carelessness of the employes of the Unlon Pacific Rallroad company, and we further find that the train crew in charge of the motor car, the flagman, John Fent: are in no wise to blame for said accident.” ‘The verdict was signed by G. M. Bachmann, foreman; M. O. Cunningham, O. R. Hall, Zens Stevens, -J. Jankowisky, G. W. Guleve. The taking of testimony began at 2 o'clgek and continued all afteruoon. The Unlon Pacific company, the street car co: pany and the reiatives of St. John were represented by attorneys, and all took part in the examinstion of witnesses. Coroner Bralley, after the verdict was delivered, sald that he would not cause the arrest of J. B. Hornish, engineer and John Clark, fireman, of the switch engire for the killing of St. John was purely ac- cidental according to the evidence, and he Was sure there was mo criminal intent. No Crimisal Arraignment. The coroner believed that the jury, in placing the blame on the railroad company, 414 not mean that the ewitch crew should be arrested. He sald it was for the county attorney to .declde whether a complaint should be filed against Hornish, Clark or the the rallroad company. County Attorney Bhields is at present In Salt Lake City, e facts concerning the accident brought out at the inquest were as published in The Bée Monday mofning. Motor car No. 145, in charge of Conductor L. P. Cook and Motorman Charles Stitt, was golng south on Thirteenth street.
