ASHLAND, Neb, Aug. 11L—(Special)— The Riverside Ranch company, the heaviest breeders of Hereford cattle i America, George E. Ricker & Co., proprietors, have suspended payment. Last week the employes, numbering some twenty persons, struck because there was & month's pay due, and the manager an- nounced that there were no funds to pay them. Today over twenty summons were served in suits begun the employes for wages due. The affairs of the cdmpany are in a tangle, growing out of confiicting claims to ownership under numerous chat- tel mortgages. D, Aug. 1l.—(Special) ~The Big Four company, which owns a group of claims of Deadwood gulch, rbout three miles above this city, will begin vork this week on the ground. Theré arc six claims in the group and they are locatet mear the rich strike which was recemtly through the property. The comaist of a double com- partment shaft, which will go down 200 feot on a four-foot vertical which has been opened on the ground. The principal own- ers of the Big Four group are residents of Hamburg, Ia. Frank Tierney and Tex Stell, two well known prospectors, have just arrived from the Iron and Beaver creek district and say that the country there is mow being over- run by prospectors some fine ore bodles bave been opemed up. This district e really a continuation of the Ragged Top @istrict and the ore which is being taken out of the mines there is similar in all of its characteristics to that taken out of the mines in the Ragged Top district. There have " & number of good prop- erties opened up and some excellent ore bodies are now in process of development. Ome of these properties, the Bob White jsrcup, om Iron creek, owned by Johmson and assoclates, has had a great deal of work done upon it there are several tunnels which bave been run in on ore shoots of large dimensions. The ore s es- pecially amenable to the cyanide process and will run from $¢ to $15 a ton gold. Close to the Bob White group is the Madill ground, on which operations have but just started, an open cut having been run on the ore shoot that shows on the surface of the ground. The ore is similar to-that in the Johnson ground, but carries higher values, going from $17 to $20 a tom. The company has recently purchased the interest held by former Superintendent Saftord in the mine and will appoint a superintendent of 1ts own to take charge of operations. The hoist which has been bullding at the Aetna mine will be in running order this week, and the work of sinking the shaft resumed. It 1s mow down almost 200 feet, and the vein at that depth is about five feot in width, and carries high values. D., Aug. 11.—(Spectal) ~The new shaft on the Clarabelle has now reached a depth of 160 fest, and at this depth the veln is something over five feét in width, enclosed by weil defined walls. The vein 1s composed of heavily mineralized material, in thé center of which appears t0 be & core of quarts from six to ten inches wide. The Clarabelle was at one time looked on s n bomaza, but the rich veln was fost in striking It, and at the present time the outlook for doing so is very bright. The ore is being mined from the old workings, and while it goes very high in lead, carries but twenty-eight ounces of silver and a few dollars in gold to the ton.
