Successtul Matrimonial Tackle of a Yale Foot Ball Player. When James C. Greenway struggled valiantly against the victorious Prince- ton foot ball team in 1899 he won the greatest victory of his life. He won a bride and $1,000,000. The wedding took place at Pittsburg last week and was worthy of the romance, re- lates the New York World. The bride was Miss Harriet Miller Lau- der, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Georgo Lauder-of -Fittsburg. Mr. Greenway didn't know that she was to have a million. Neither did she. That was Andrew Car- negle's wedding glft to his niece. James O. Greenway is a real Greenway, and that means much. A real Greenway has a standing in college athletics like a real Poe. They do things. His brother, John C. Greenway, estab- lished a reputation at Yale that is likely to last as long as college athletics en- dure. Then he made &n even greater rep- utation as one of Roosevelt's Rough Rid- ers. James came along and proved himself a better all-round athlete than John. Of course, belng & Greenway, James went In for foot ball. He made the 'varsity team and played right tackle in 1898 and 1899, This didn't content him. He went in for rowing as well and he made the crew. It is extremely dificult for a man to make both, because they overlap in a measur and they do not leave any too much ti for one to keep up with his studles. It Is absolutely necessary for a student to keep up his work in his classes nowadays. He also weut in for base ball and ended up his athletic achievements by winning & place on the track team. When the Cuban war broke out Dr. John Greenway straightway applied to Lieutenant Colonel Roosevelt for permission to foin the regiment. He was then in practice in New York and was begloning to make a name for himeelf. Colonel Roosevelt was mighty glad to have Dr. John and made him assistant surgeon, with the rank of Meutenant. James' C. Greenwey was then a student in Yale and mightily interested iIn foot ball, having made the team, but he was more interested in fighting, a0 he, too, applied to Colonel Roosevelt. He was accepted also and the brothers went to the Cuban war together and both won distinction. After the reglment was mustered out Dr. John Greenway went back to his practice in New York and James returned to Yale to finish his educatipn. He again made the foot ball team, being given his old place as tackle. And he played a smashing good game. That was one of the years when the Blue suffered defeat at the hands of Princeton, the Tigers winning by a score of 11 to 10, but Greenway's work stood out boldly and ever so many people talked shout it. But the impression made upon the Yale men and the Princeton men and all the spectators was as nothing to the impression which James O. Greenway made upon Miss Harrlet Miller Lauder. She is a Farming ton girl who has traveled much. She wanted to meet the young glant, ané as soon as he saw her he was very anxlows to know her. The youilg people fell in lovi at first sight, but they walted four yean betore they married.
