DES MOINES, June 10.—(Special Tele- gram.)—With apparently no hope of win- ning the game, the Rangers took a mighty brace and got three runs in the ninth. up till the ninth the game was a repetition of yesterday's, the score being 2 to 0. Owens pitehed a magnificent game. He al- lowed but three hits. He was, however, rather wild and four men walked. Three of them went down to second when the Midgets cured their two runs. Des Moines lost by the ftrightful work of O'Leary at short. In the minth inning he made three errors, all of them costly. His errors were mostly on wild throwing, In the second Des Molnos got two. Stearns flew out to Hickey, Warner and Backof both watked. Ryan singled, scoring Warner. Hanson hit a long fly to Genins and Backof came in. Clark ended the thing with a fiy to Carter. In the ninth Stewart singled, Hickey mnned. Burg singled and went to second on a passed ball, that also put Stewart on third. Gonding came with a timely double and scored both men. Owens hit O'Leary, who fumbled the ball, letting Gonding to third. Carter hit to short and O'Leary threw wild letting Gomding come home. Genins soaked a liner to short and O'Leary made & fine catch, but threw the ball away wild, trylng to make a double pla: It uad no d trous effect, however, the best Thomas could do was an easy one to Ryan, who threw him out at first. Quinn has signed Burg. He will don the Des Moines uniform as soon as Dolan can get nere from Omaha. Attendance, 500. Scorz: OMAHA. AB. R H. 0. A E Carter, rf. NO SETTLEMENT SEEMS TO BE IN SIGHT Not Much Significance Attached to the Conference Mitchell and Labor Com- missloner Wright, Between President WILKESBARRE, Pa., June 10.—In the ab- sence of President Mitchell from strike headquarters today there was a dearth of news from the miners' side. President Mitchell Is expected to arrive here from New York late this afternoon. Not much influence is placed on his visit to Commissioner Wright, it being generally believed that he went to the metropolis merely to give the labor commissioner some inside information for the benefit of President Roosevelt. The mining superintendents in this valley sald today there was no change in the conditions at their collieries. Water is slowly accumulating in many of the mines throughout the entire region Notwithstanding reports to the contrary, it is stated on authority that the mines are not in as good condition as when the strike of the engineers, firemen and pump men began About twenty-five men who were engaged in fighting fire at the Jersey mine of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western company deserted thelr posts. This is said to be a serious matter for the company, which is short of men.
