MORGAN IN SEARCH OF REST Sees No Ome om siness and is to Take = Cruise on His Private Yacht, (Copyright, 138, by Press Publishing Co.) VENICE, June 8§ —(New York World Ca« blegram—8pecial Telegram.)~The World correspondent met J. Plerpont Morgan on the latter's arrival here, but when he at- tempted to speak with him one of his party intervened abruptly, saying: “Mr. Mer- EAD can see no one on business of any kind. He has been ordered to take a complete rest from brain work. He has not come here for any businéss purpose, but solely for a vacation.”” Mr. Morgan looked {ll. He wore an over- coat, although the weather was hot, and went straight aboard his steam yacht Cor- sair in a launch which was awaiting him at the rallway station. The World corre- spondent afterward spoke to an official here, who alone has knowledge of Mr. Mor- gan’s condition and plans and who sal ““Mr. Morgan has gome for a fortnight' cruise to Athens, because he s almost worn out from the strain. He Is not broken down, but his condition gives cause for anxiety. He is doing no business. All letters will be held for him here until he returns from Athens. If the heat proves too great he may return immediately, otherwise his plan is to arrive here about the middle of June and go to Lordom for the coronation. “He Is in a mervous condition and bas placed himself unreservedly in the hande of a doctor. He saw no one here exeept Colonel Thompson of the steam yacht Tor- frida, whom he went to thank last evening for giving him his pilot. United States Consul Johnson sent a gondola with the most famous Venetian singer to seremade him when he was aboard Mr. Thompson's yacht, but word was sent that Mr. Morgan felt 8o exhausted he could not enjoy the music and needed absolute quiet. “His object is to get away from every- body. He will cruise along the Dalmatian coast and go thence to the Piraeus. He saw no one here on business.” Nobody could have been more surprised than was Edmond Parrier, the venerable director of the Jardin des Plantes, when J. P. Morgan presented a splendid set of preclous stones for the museum of mfneral- ogy. These stomes, purchased from Tif- fany, figured in the exhibition. Everybody thought Mr. Morgan intended to offer them to the Natural IHjstory museum in New York. CZAR OF RUSSIA KEEPS BUSY Devotes Most of Day to Affairs State, but Reserves Time for His Family, (Copyright, 1902, by Press Publishing Co.) PARIS, June 8.—(New York World Ca- blegram—Special Telegram.)—That the czar of all the Russians is no ldler is shown by the following program -for his day. Regularly at 5:30 he rises, dresses without the services of a valet and takes & cup of tea. From 9 to 10 he reéeives in his cabinet his ministers, with whom he discusses the most urgent affalrs of the hour. Breakfast follows and then the esar bustes himself with the work of the day, listening to reports and signing which are plled up each morning o desk. Those of confidential and governors of provinces aie’' very at- tentively considered by the c#dr, who some- times makes notes on their margins with a blue pencil. At 1 o'clock the czar takes his place at the family table with the em-" press and sometimes little princess. Until 4 o'clock he gives his time to his family. He plays with his children, romps with them and even takes part in hide and seek with them. From 4 to 7 o'clock he remains shut up in his study, coming out only when dinner is served. After dinmer he smokes several cigarettes and toward midnight goes to his bedroom. KAISER AND UNION ALLIES Alllance Offers G Says Paul Serre. Germany's State with BERLIN, June 8.—Dr. Paul Serre, in & pamphlet on Germany’s political alliances, expresses the hope that the United States will take the hand which Germsny stretches out. He says the open door aims in China of the United Btates and Gers many are identical. Their national fn- terests there camnot confligt. It is in the east thet both nations expect trade ad- vantages. A political alliance, it it were possible, would not Interfere’ with their business rivalry there or elsewhere. The United States, having no continental con- troversies, would not check any of the pur- poses of Germany in Europe, could also leave Germany a free hand in Africa and might even support Germany there in con- sideration of Germany’s abandonment of its South American interests. Neither has & fleet suficlent for the complete support of its aims, but together they would be equal to any contingency. MORGAN HELPS CORONATION Tapestries to Adorn Rooms of the King Queen.
