PLANS OF THE ROCK ISLAND May Purchase Site and Erect a Sepa- rate Passenger Depot in St Louis. ST. LOUIS, May 22—R. R. Cable, chair- man of the executive board of the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific railroad, arrived in St. Louis- today, accompanied by General | Manager Goodnow amd other officials of the oad. After a trip fo the world's fair site | W. 8. McChesney, general manager of the Terminal association, took the party on & special train to inspeot the terminal facili- ties on both sides of the river. Mr. Cable would not discuss his mission in St. Louls other than to say that the Rock Island wanted to get its trains in here and was doing everything to bring about this result. He hoped to make satisfactory arrangements with the Ter- minal association as epeedily as possible. From other sources comes the statement that the Rock Island would bulld a pew passenger depot to be entirely distinct from' Union etation and that a deal was now being considered with the Burlington vafl- rosd for the purchase of an option which the latter company bolds on the property at Nineteenth and Washington avenues. Thie is the only logical conclusion to be drawn, railroad men say, from the purchase | by the Rock Island of the extensive Wiggine ferry properties and the Oolorado road.
