COLLECTOR RECEIVES ORDERS Washington Office Advises Local Revs enne Officer of Application of New Law. The collector of internal revenue has ree celved instructions from the commissioner relative to the provisions of the revenue act which will take the place of the law now in force on July 1. The commissioner calls particular attention to the fact that on and after that date the tax on fermented liquor will be reduced to $1 per barrel and upon nuff and tobacco to 6 cents a pound. A rebate will be allowed on all tobacco and snuff In unbroken manufacturer's packe ages in the hands of manufacturers and dealers on July 1, the drawback being equal to the difference between the tax under the present law and the new ome. No drawback is allowed on stamps for liquor, tobacco or snuff, All rights and llabilities under the present act will be maintained after the new law goes into effect and the tax upon estates of persons who die between now and July 1 will be collected as usual, even though the distribution of the estate does not take place until after that date. The special tax will be taken entirely off the following lines of business: Banks, brokers, grain dealers, pawnbrokers, thi ters, circuses, exhibitions, manufacturers ot tobacco, dealers In leaf and manufactured tobacco, and the stamp taxes will all be taken oft with the exception of those which were in force before the war revenue law went fnto effect. NOT SO MUCH LITIGATION District Court Docket for May Term Shows % Cames Than Last Year. For the May term of the district court for Douglas county, which term is to begin the fitth day of next month, there probably will be 1,422 cases on the civil docket, or 100 less than for the May ferm a year ago. On the criminal docket there will be about 200 cases, which Is much short of this present term because of Judge Baxter’'s decision in the Hill case that the grand jury's work was invalld. This decixion knocked out about 300 cases, nearly 250 being dismjssed immediately after the decision was ren- dered.
