FRED 18 STEGEMAN ON TRIAL. Defending Himself for Shooting of Joe Maly at South Oma Fred Btegeman {s on trial In Judge Baker's court on a charge of shooting with Intent to kill. Stegoman 18 said to be the man who fired the shot in a ealoon on Q street, South Omaha, on the night of De- cember 20 last, which came so near put- ting an end to the earthly existence of Joseph J. Maly. Stegeman and a stranger entered the saloon together, hoth appear- ing to be under the influence of liquor. Turning suddenly Stegeman drew a revol- ver, 80 it is sald, and shot at tho stranger. The bullet went wide of its mark and struck Maly, who was standing at the bar, in the back. For several weeks Maly hov+ erod between lifo and death.
