Lawrence for the last two years, has become & total wreck off Seven Islands and that {ts crew was entirely lost. Captain Lemaistre, In command of the steamer, and several of his officers and crew be longed to this city. ‘The first dispatch from Seven Islands brought but very meager news and It was ouly late in the afternoon that Frazler & Co., owners of the steamer, were Informed of the extent of tho disaster. Hesides the crew of ine- teen men, it was learned that seven pas- sengers had also perished The 8t. Olaf was an Iron steamer of 306 tons and was built on the Clyde at Port Glasgow in 1982. 1t was valued at $40,000 and was insured for $20,000. Before coming to this port the St. Olaf ran between Pictou and Magdalen islands and was chartered by Frazier & Co. to re- place the steamship Otter, wrecked on the last trip to Quebec two years ago. The St Olat left here on Sunday morning last on ts last trip to Esquimaux Point, carry- | ing government mails, passengers and a large cargo. All apparently went well on the way down and the steamer left imme- diately on the return trip to this port. | The last news heard of the St. Olaf up | until this morning was that it had left Bheldrako on Wednesday and shortly after | this the signal station dispatches reported | rough weather with gales of wind and | snow, and It Is supposed that during oue | the 8t.
