One Is said to be six feet tall and the other five feet elght inches. Both wore black slouch hats. The taller of the two wore a long, dark colored overcoat and the shorter a l1ight overcoat. This descrip- tion tallles fairly well with that of the two men who committed the series of burglaries in Florence Tuesday night and who tapped the tl In Hart's saloon on Ames aveauo for a snug sum The enterprising pair opened operations at 8:30 Wednesday evening at Winkler's saloon, Fitth and Locust streets, in East Omaha. It was a very bad begluning, and they secured nothing, because the bar- |tender dldn’'t act as they supposed he would. That functionary was alone in the place at the time. The yobbers, who bad evidently been watching from the outside for a clear coust, rushed in upon him, thelr taces covered with pockot handkerchiefs and pistols in their hands. They intended probably to “stick him up,” when one would stand guard over him while the other rifled the till, but the bartender, mot walting for orders, turned and ran pre- cipltately out of the back door. The robbers then turned cnd ran out of the front door. They doubtless didn't care to take any chances In the saloon with & bartender outside looking for help, Went Through the Crowd. Exactly one hour later the pair turned up at Fritz Staeker's saloon, 3612 North Thirtleth street, which was well filled with customers. The bartender and five patrons were lined up along the wall, where in turn thelr pockets were picked. John Tude, 3502 North Thirtleth street; O. T. Johnson, 3325 Emmet street; Frank Dudley, 3102 North Thirtieth street; C. J. Lewls 3624 North Thirtieth street, and Tom Mar- kell, 3612 North Thirtieth street, contrib- uted to their revenue. It is estimated that tho bandits netted $25 from this job. At 10:40 p. m. Willlam Huntzinger's sa- loon, 1516 Military avenue, was visited by the doughty palr. Huntzinger was behind the bar and was alone when the two men with masks and revolvers entered, and he made no resistance. Ordering him to hold up his hands the tall outlaw kept him cov- ered with his pistol while his smaller pal gathered $30 from the cash register. They then took a drink of whisky each and de- parted. A rallroad man named H. G. Hasbrook was held up by two masked robbers near Tenth and Mason streets at 11:30, but, upon the approach of a patrolman, they ran away before securing their booty. Thelr descrip- tion corresponds with that of the saloon robbers. The resldence of Frank P. Gould, 502 South Twenty-ninth avenue, was entered by burglars about 3 o'clock Wednesday, but nothing of value was stolen. The thieves rummaged through the dining room and other rooms of the first floor, but made no attempt to visit the sleeping apartments up- stalrs. The police brought in susplcious charac- ters by the wagonload yesterday in the hope of landing the gullty pair. Among others, Willlam A. Connolly, John Coyne and Charles Campbell were brought in from a saloon near Twenty-fifth and Cuming. STUDENTS WILL SEE GAME Rates for Nebraska-Minnesota Foot Ball Game at Lincoln Slashed Almost to Nothing. A merry rate war has been inaugurated in St. Paul and Minneapolls as the result of the foot ball game to be played in Lin- coln Thanksgiving day between the Min- nesota and Nebraska universities. The in- terest taken {n this match by the students at the Minnesota school and the certalnty that a large number of them would make the trip to Lincoln prompted the railroads operating to Lincoln to fnstitute a lively warfare In order to get the business. The regular round-trip rate from Min- neapolls to Lincoln is $24.60, but this was cut in turn by the Minneapolis & St. Louls and the Northwestern until it tumbled down to $5.45, and there it stopped. As a result the attendance from the Minnesota uni- versity will number several hundred stu- dents, and the Minnesota team will lack nothing in point of encouragement from “‘rooters” bearing its standards, It Is expected that the bulk of the north- ern contingent will make the trip over the Minneapolis & St. Louis, Illinois Central and Burlington roads to Lincoln, as tha route has been officially designated for the team and band. The majority of the stu- dents will, 1t is considered, want to follow the heroes of the gridiron and the spectal train that will be run will be taxed to accommodate the blg crowd from the north, — Are you out of work? will bring 30u a position.
