Three times the derrick was stopped as the block of stone was being lowered to the foundation and the motions were accompanied by the grand honors of the Masonic fraternity. The cornerstone was tested by the square, level and plumb, the emblems of Masonry. ¢irand Master W. W. Threo thousand people gathercd about the platform upon which the grand officers of \the Masons, the city officials and members of the Board of Education stood during the ceremonied. High school pupils were dis missed to take part in the exercises and the crowd was increased by hundreds of seventh and eighth grade pupils who came trom all parts of the city to witaess the ceremonies Previous to the ceremonies the Knights Templar and other Masonic bodies met at Masogic temple, corner of Sixteenth street and Capitol avenue, where they were joined by the High school battalion, the city off- cfals and members of the Board of Educa- tion, who acted as an escort and conducted west on Douglas to Nine- street, morth to Dodge street and n west to the High school grounds, where everything was in readiness for the npressive ceremonies, Hundsome Plece of Stene.
