YORK, Neb., Oct. 16.—(Special Telegram.)— The First Methodist church of York, one of the largest churches in the state, was tonight burncd. The alarm was sounded about 8:30 o'clock, and although there was a prompt re- sponse there was some delay in obtaining water, and in the meantime the fire gained great headway and the once magnificent structure is now a masg of smouldering ruins. The building was erected ten years ago at a cost of about $20,000, and had the largest seating capacity of any building in York county. As near as can be learned at this bour the cause of the fire was from the cross- ing of electric wires. It was one of the largest fires that ever occurred here, the fire cpartment being unable to cope with it. There was about $8,000 insurance on the church.
