Dr. lon of Sioux City an address on “Trilby" at the Unity last evening. Tl Muarier and his The lecturer from the bo Trilby. She said at while Trilby faults, they were lost to view numbered by her many virtues. It was not an inspiring sight to see Trilby sitting naked and cross-legged on a marble throne smoking cf rettes, but when it came to Trilby posing with sweet dignity as a model of the marvel- on cation of God, the speaker tha ht that it wasn't any more harm for Trilby thus pos2 as a model in the primitive garb of nature than it was sinful for an artist to paint the picture or a purchaser to admire and buy the beautiful work of art reproduced on_canvass, The nude in ert was warmly defended by Mrs. Gordon. The prudes and critics came in for a share of censure. Men who admired chastity in women should admire chastity in men, the speaker argued, and while it was to be regretted that Trilby had another side o her life left to the imagination of the reader who could e read between the lines, Trilby had graces of woman- hood; she was honest end had a noble chardctor in many respects. She could not bo forgiven in this world, but could possibly pass muster before a charitable Providence.
