PROPOSALS o THE THEATERS, A glass of sparkling, frulty champagne can searcely be more invigorating than an evening spent in witnessing an interpretation )t Charles Hoyl's greatest farce comedy success, “A Trip to Chinatown,” which will *|be seen at the Boyd this cvening and the aftwo following evenings. This engagement 1| Wl be notable for more than one reason. “The Musical Trifles,” as the author mod- sstly proclaims his play, has had a run of 656 performances in the city of New York, at Heyt's Madison Square theater. This excels the longest run known to any previous New York production, regardless of how preten- tious it may have been. “Adonis” has next approached it in a run of 603 performance and “Humpty Dumpty” 483. Mr. Hoyt has letermined to give Omaha the farce identical with its production in New York, even to the smallest detail. The cast Includes """3 Conor, who created the part of ‘“‘Wellang Strong,” Geraldine McCann, Sadie Kirby, Newton Chisnell, Harry Gilfoil, Margaret McDonald, and, as a fitting climax, Bessle Clayton, the phenomenal dancer, Wwho not ouly caused a furore in the metropolls, but setstald old Boston agog with her marvelous manipulations in the way of eccentric dang- ing. Another unusual event incidental to this production, unusual because it has never before been paralleled In the history of farce comedies, will be the bringing to this clty of a complete carload of scenery by Voegtlin for this produc- tion. Farce comedies have not hitherto, aven in Mr. Hoyt's brilliant career, caused the transportation of scenic effects s0 elaborate. The great success of the pl ‘n this city last year is still fresh in the minds of our theater goers, but even those who have heard it before Wil be delighted with much that fs new, including some protty musical numbers, noticeably: “Keep & Knockin’,” “The Pretty Widow,” “Crisp Young Chaperone,” “Yes, I'll Be Your Sweet- neart,” “Ruben and Cynthia,” “My Little Maid in the Moon,” and whistling extraor- linary, to say nothing of the ever popular ‘On the Bowery"” that Is bristling with new nits, fully abreast to the present era. B0 h m The career of Danlel Sully in the character of “O'Neil of Washington, D. C.,” has been remarkable for steady advancement. He has been before the public as a star for about nine years, having first begun to shine with brilliancy in_“The Corner Grocery.” The next step in the right direciton was the pro- duction of Leander Richardson’s ‘“‘Mlllion- afre,” in which he astonished the public aud critics, for his role in this play was an ex- acting’ one, and he acquitted himself with great credit to his artistic power, the depth of which had not been deemed equal to such a part. Not satisfied to stop there, however, he has provided himself with a play of a much higher order than any in which he has here- tofore been seen, and will demonstrate the fact at Boyd's theater during his engagement, beginning December 21, that it Is easler for 1 studlous artist to rize by sheer force of de- termination than it is for one who {8 not stu- dious and ambitious to maintain his position in the sphere in which he may find himselt 15 the result of earler efforts. “O'Neil of Washington, D. C.” his new play, is a cleverly written story founded on the history of nofable events which occurred In Washington. The inevitable love story sup- plies much of the interest, but the substance of the play is of the trials of an Irish-Amer- ican inventor, the role in which Mr. Sully appears, In the evolution of the play a grept deal of comedy was developed through the contrast of the honest old inventor with loj- bylsts, politiclans and the well known chaf- acters who infest the national capital, B During his engagement at the Boyd on the 21st, 22d and 23d Insts. Mr. Daniel Sully will present his new play, “0'Neil of Wi ington, D. C.,” in which are depicted the go- clal, political 'and military sides of life at the national capital. The repertoire here may also include “The Millionaire.” I3 & o h e e Monday evening, December 24, that ine itable comedian, Stuart Robson, will begin an cngagement of three nights' duration at the Boyd. Monday evening, December 24, Oliver Goldsmith's immortal comedy, *She Stoops to Conquer,” will be given, with Dl‘r Robson as Tonny Tumpkins. At the Tues- day, Christmas, matince, John Buckstone Baldwin's charming comedy, “Leap Year, or The Ladies' Privilege,”” will be played, with Mr., Robson as Mr. Dionysius Dimples, & husband on trial. Tuesday and Wednesday ovenings Bronson Howard's great comedy, “The Henrletta,” will be the bill, with Mr. Robson in his famous character of Bertle the Lamb, T Thursday evening of this week there will be presented at Boyd's, James Sheridan Knowles' sublime tragedy, ““Virginius,” for the benefit of the Associated Charities of Omaha, and given under the auspices of Nes braska lodge, No. 1, Knights of Pyhtias. Mr, J. Bdgar Owens will eppear as Virginius, and will have nearly fifty people in his support. Aside from the intrinsic merit of the play, the charitable nature of the production should ape peal strongly to the public, and a crowded houre be in attendance.
