Cables from London reported reselling of Russian wheat there at less than shippers' prices. NEW YORK, Dec, 10.—The week opened in the Stock exchange with a weak tone to speculation, being depresesd by the hea¥ls ness of American securities on the London Stock exchange. There was also some sell- ing here for the forelgn account of a ma jority of the international speclalties. A report that Drexel, Morgan & Co. of this city and J. 8. Morgan & Co. of London would Issue simultaneously a siatement de- claring that the Brie peorganization plan would bé abandoned and that a stock as- sessment would be levied induced sales of the common stock in an unusually large amount, causing a decline of 1 per cent, while the preferred sales amounted to only 400 shares and broke 7)4 per cent compared with the last previous sale, which was made on November 1. Sugar was heavily' traded In, but the movement {n the stock was in the hands of the same clique which controlled last week's great speculation in_the shares. At the opening a decline of % per cent was made, followed by an advance of 24 per cent, a reaction of 1 per cent and a gain of 1% per cent o 63 shortly before noon, that being the top price of the day. During the after- noon the fluctuations were frequent, and shortly before the close the stock touched 9% per cent, the low figure of the morning, closing at a'recovery of % per cent. Com- pared with Saturday the shares are down % per cent, and from the best of the day 2% per cent. The conl shares were heavy on sales, believed by many to be in liquida- tion of 'long stock for the account of in- siders of the group, all cloaing at the lowest, except New Je Central, which rallied % per cent In the final tMding on small coverings . In the grangers the trading’ was light, ex- cept as to St. Paul, of which London was a seller, and the flictuations were confined within fractional limits, save in Northwest- ern, which moved within a range of 1 per cent. The tendency of the stocks was downward, and the sales show I from Saturday of % per cent in St. Paul and Northwestern and % per cent in Rock Island, Burlington standing unchanged. The generdl market was somewhat irregular, but was weak in the main and closed b t6 f per cent lower than on Saturday, the lat- h-r in Lake Shore. CHICAGO, Dec. 10,—The December crop re- port, as compiled by the Prairle Farmer, to be issued Tuesday, says that further Investigation confirms the estimate made last month of a § per cent Increate in winter wheat compared with the area harvested this year. The condition of the growing crop averages 91.2, or about two points lower than a year ago. The crop w planted under unfavorable conditions and a large part of the area suffered from drouth during September and October and the plant is not well rooted, stooling poorly and thin on the ground. If hard freez'ng weather is deferred and there are good rains the deficiencles noted may be corrected, but the gencral stamina of the plant is less satisfactory than a year ago. A Epecial_report on the quality of corn indicates about 77 per cent of the crop is merchantable, or, in round numbers, 1,100,000,000 bu., the smallest since 1883, Coffee Market.
