Holmes Saye This City bs Regarded the Future Market for Montana. B 0. C. Holmes, secretary of the Manue ¢ facturers and Consumers assoclation of Nes braska, has returned from a trip over the B. & M. railroad to Billings and inter- mediate points. Mr. Holmes accompanied 3 the excursion of the Lincoln Commerclal club, the party being composed of twenty- seven jobbers and manufacturers, From Lincoln they went direct to Billings, and from there returning to Sheridan, thence to Hot Springs, and later to Lead City and Deadwocd. Mr. Holmes was greatly pleased with the people and their cordiality, the excursicnists being met at all points by the business men and citizens generally and treated to banquets, carriage rides, ete. The b travelers were agreeably surprised to find % among the people a very warm feeling for R Nebraska manufacturers and jobbers. They found goods from this state in a good many of ths stores visited. The peoplo of Bill- ings have felt for years that they were at the mercy of the Great Northera, and they aro glad to get an outlet by way of the B, & M. railroad to Nebraska. During the coming year Mr. Holmes ex- pects to see & good many cattle shipped from that country to South Omaha. In Billings there appears to be a little an= tipathy toward St. Paul and Minneapolis, on ount of what is termed the rabid oppo- sition in those cities to silver. The people are very rapldly getting the land suitable for cultlvation under frrigation, and the crops that they produce are astonishing to anyone from the rain belt, As indicating the feellng In that country towards Nebraska, Mr. Holmes says that he has already received letters from there asking for the names of firms making this or that article, or for the names of jobbers of certain lines. He anticipates a very large trade from that country in the future if the business men of this state will take care of it. —_—— DUE TO CARELESSNESS. Health Commissioner Naville Thin Cnuses the “pread of scarlet Fe Health Commissioner Saville is inclined to believe that much of the scarlet fever that has been prevalent this fall is due to the carelessness of some parents and physiclans. He says there is too much tendency to be- little symptoms that, while they may not ba serious in themselves, may throw out & contaglon that may result fatally to some other person. In the cases at the Lothrop school the centagion is sald to be due to the fact that one of the children who had a slight attack of the disease was allowed to return to school before the disease had exhausted itself. The child was only slightly affected by the disease ‘and the physician called it scarlet rash and, the patient was only kept out of schiool a week. When she returned a dozen other pupils immediately contracted the disease, and, while none of the cases have proved fatal, several of them have been quite serious. There {s one thing that all parents and physicians should remember,’ contipued the ccmmissioner, “and that is that scatlet rash and scarietina and scarlet fever are all identical. When a child has a moderate at- tack of scarlet fever it is too customary for the physician to call it scarlet rash and not require the vigilance that should be kept. Calling it by another name does not lessen the danger and the child is just as likely to give the fever 1o another as though it had, had a really severe attack Itself, The: teachers in the schools should also be vigilant in this particular. If a pupil shows any symptoms of the rash it should be sent heme at once and not allowed to return to o0l until two or three weeks after the disease has apparently spent its virulence,” -~ City Welghers Will Organizo. The city welghers held a meeting last. evening at the office of the city inspector. of weights and measures for the purpose of forming an organization for mutual bens s that futyre. i Recital by Miss Kuller's Class. Miss Fuller's class in elocution gave a recital last night in the auditorium of the Young Men's Christian association building. A large audience was present to enjoy & long program music and recitations. All the selections were well received and almost all were encored. A great portion of the numbers were given by little girls, all of whom did exceedingly well. Miss Coon sang 2 solo with very good effect. The banjo solo and encore by Mr. Cummings was also worthy of particular ‘mention. = His selec- tions ‘were difficult and suited to exhibit the quickness of his fingering. SlAl L L ny School Thanksgiving Porgram, The Castellar Street Presbyterlan church Sabbath school will give its annual Thanks- glving entertainment Thursday evening at 7:30. The program will consist of special Thanksgiving music by the Sabbath school choir, recitations and singing by the classes. A feature of the cvening will be an exhi= bitlon of cclored stereopticon views of. bible scenes, during which Dr. Wilson, the pastor, will' make an address. The enter- A tainment is free.
