COMMERCIAL AND FINANCIAL Markets Were All Moderately Inclined to the Bear Side, ALL THZ LINES WERE SOMEWHAT SLOW Corn Acted in Sympathy with Wheat and Though the Receipts Were Considerably Hearler Than Esiimated They Wero Not Unusually Heavy. CHICAGO, Oct. 9.~The markets were moderately inclined to the bear side today. Wheat, corn, oats and provisions suffered from a tired feeling and were sympathizing with what was said to be a forecast of to- all | morrow's government report and rumors concerning the condition of the czar of | Russia. The crop report, according to the | alleged forecast, s to be bearish. The | czar'’s death, which was apprehended, was | considered bullish. Wheat Ic=t “4e only, but corn suffered to the extent oI %c for October and %c for May; oats closed B lower and provisions at slight declines. The discouragement of yesterday's In- orease of 2,200,000 bu. in the visible supply was still workli g on the crowd this nornjirg. | For over half an hou the market w s | very weak. It was about steady for ten | minutes at yesterday's decline, but after | that and for about thirty minutes it be- | came very weak. December, which closed yesterday at 53%c, opened at that this morn 4 Ing and touched 6i%c for an instant; then worked gradually down to S¥%c, and then fell rapidly to 5, which latter 'price 1 | it reached about 1:10 a, m. May was raided on a spread of Gie. The northwestern re- ceipts were again heavy, 90 cars ng re- orted at Minneapolis’ and Duluth. Here he inspection showed 118 carloads. The orelgn wheat markets were quoted easier | at the opening. The Baltic, 1l a and | other competing exporting countries, ex- clusive of India, shipped 288,000 bu, of st week. It sold off to from 53iic to 63%c at the time referred to. Bradstr of 3,360,000 bu. east of th , 781,000 bu. Inc on the Pacific side and an increase of bu. afloat for and in Burope. Rumors con- cerning the czar of Russia were numerous during the session and near the close it was spread about that he was dead. There was a disinclination among the crowd to remain short over night and some cover- Ings near the close resulted in advancing | the price of December to 63%c, at which it | closed, May resting at ¢ bid. Corn acted in sympathy with wheat. The | receipts were considerably heavier than eatimated, but were far from being heavy The estimates yesterday we cars and 128 cars were Inspected,” Estim, Vul receipts for tomorrow are 100 cars. The govern- | ment report, it was said, would give the conditions so much better than on the month evious that it would indicate 102,000,000 u. more than t did then in the total yield A little business was done in the new No. 3 to arrive In December at ilec under the May rice and in No. 3 yellow usiness was active, with a g ward tendency up to the middie of the and o slightly Teactionary tendency that. May opened from 50%e 60%c, against 50%c to Glc at the close yesterday. It fluctuated around 500 to 0%e and then dropped to 50¢, when wheat was at the weak point. Toward the it was back to 0%c. The price hard in the last f for May and minufes and closed at o for October. Oats was active throughout gession and, influenced by the eorn, also was quite weak. long stuff was offered for sale with a lower cash market, created share of the heaviness. Was transacted. The stocks of eontract oats in store showed an Increase of 42,000,000 bu. on last weck and may have had ‘something to do in the b favor May start %c and sold down to 33c, closing at 3 ‘The receipts of hogs were only 12,000 head, but the provisions market did not receive | any benefit from the smallness of the run. | The weakness of the graln mwatkets cauzel a '?mpnuwm fecling 'in the hog products, ‘here were some half smothered Indications of a desire to unload some long stuff had the market been broadened, but as it looked unable to absorb much without breaking badly the offerings were tempered to the capacity of the markets.
