Courtland Weach Will Prosent o Line of Ate tractions for Another Fortnight. Courtland beach wil remain open an- other week or two, but the force of employes has been reduced and only those necessary to handle the anticipated decreased business has been retalned. Notwithstanding the dullness exporfenced in all lines of business as well as (n amusements the season just closed at Courtland has been a reasonably successful one. It has boen more profitable than the management at the beginning of the season had reason to expect. While the attendance the first month was far below that of the corresponding period of the sea- son of 1803, it gradually increased to the close. The special attractions intreduced did much to Increase the patronage, and while Courtland beach has entertained in the neighborhood of 176,000 people during the past fifteen woeks, no one can justly con- demn any of the numerous attrectinns. Manager Grifith has succeeded during this season, as well as last, in giving the patro the very best talent it has been possible to cbtain, and his advertising of his en- tertainments has never been exaggerated. Particularly is this true of Pompeli, and the throngs who visited it from abroad saw far more than had been looked for, “The Last Days of Pompell,”” of course, while it was a mammonth production, with expenditures much more enormous than most people would imagine, has increased the beach exchequer, but the directors and stockholders of the Courtland Beach association at the same time may be called upon to make good & small defleit on the entire beach season not- withstanding. Tho Odd Fellows picnic on Wednesday. The Wosdmen of the World hold a picnio on_Thursday Several private dances have been arranged to take place shortl The disbursements of the beach assocla | tion have been more than double those of last Billy Bickett and wife, remembered by beach” patrons as “The Bicketts,” were at Pompeii Saturday night enroute’ east from *Frisco. The switchback railway, the carousal, bath houses, zoclogical garden, ete., will re- main open, but the orchestra, balloon and other attractions have been discontinued. The rain Sunday interfered with the at- tendance at Courtland for the first Sunday during the past two years. Consequently th employes turned It into “Employes day, and during the afternoon, headed by the band, boarded the steamer Aurora and took ‘a sail on Courtland lake. Upon re- turning the band played a march and the employes, including the police, colored dish- washers, cashiers, cooks and help of all kinds paraded the entire beach, dismissing at the switchback, where all enjoyed a ride, and many of them for the first time Superintendent George S. Crane was yes- terday the recipient of a handsome gold mounted silk braided watch chain with inl- tials end date thereon, a token of esteem from employes of the beach. On Septem- ber 12, 1893, at the close of the season, they gave him a pretty charm, which now hangs from his new chain. -— Says M. W. Selby, Muncie, IIL: ‘*Last summer a coal miner came to my drug store one night, half dead with cramps. There was no doctor to be had. He asked me it 1 had anything that would help him. [ opened a bottle of Chamberlain’s Colie, Chol- era and Diarrhoea Remedy and gave him a large dose. In twenty minutes his pain was all gone. This man had been subject t cramps, but has not been troubled since. Every family should keep this remedy at hand for use in such cases. It can always be depended upon. Tor sale by druggisis. i i il New Street Cleaning Device A new device for street cleaning has re- cently been patented by Omaha parties and it promises to almost revolutionize the mode of cleaning the highways and byways. It fs automatic, taking the dirt up and passing it through a dust separator and depositing it in a cart, which is attached behind. When the cart is full by an ingenious contrivance a bell Is rung, as if by magle, which gives the driver the tip to stop and have the full cart detached and have It replaced by an emply one. The machine Is hauled by two horses and the power to run the fans and brushes neces- sary for the strcet cleaning process Is in- dependent of the traction. This machine does away altogether with the necessity of street sprinkling. It Is dustless and can be used In the day time on streets with little traffic. It can be operated at half the cost of the present system, the patentees say, and at the same time insure clean streets. Ex-Senutor ulson's Helrs, In the probate court Emma C. Wooldridge, heir at law and daughter of the late John T, Paulson, has complained of the executor, al- leging that as executor he has not accounted Zor property which came into his possession since March, 1893. At that date she alleges that he had the sum of 9 in cash on hand, $20,371 worth of personal property in his possession, besides a large amount of real estate.
