Police Put a Stop to Trouble Over the Levylng of an Attachment. A small-sized riot was averted last even- ing at 7 o'clock by Officers Munroo and Russell. The affuir occurred at the storo of the Omaha Wine and Liquor company, 212 South Fourteenth street, and the cause was the serving of an attachment. Wednesday evening notice of attachment proceedings In fovor of a Kentucky firm was served upon Mr. McGuire, president of the company, for a certain portion of the stock. A custodiun was placed in charge Wednesday night. Last evening, however, Constable Saussay went to the company's place to again serve notice of attachment, claiming that the custodian who had been placed in charge had been ousted by Mr. McGuire at the advice of legal counsel. Saussuy cntered the store, so McGuire says, and without making his purpose known, at- tempted to eject McGuire, his attorney, and all the members of the company In the store. As the attachment had only been levied upon a portion of the stock, and not the whole. McGuire could see no reason why he should vacate. In this opinion he was supported by the advice of his uttorney. When Saussay made known his business and very quietly asked posscssion of the store, the attorney told him in plain words how for his (Saussay's) authority extended, and also further informed the constable that posses- sion of the place would not be given, but that neither he (the attorney) nor any meme ber of the company had any objection to the constable removing that portion of the stock for which the attachment had been issued, or they would allow a custodian to be placed in the store until the constable saw fit to remove the goods. This did not satisty Saussay. He swore in a couple of deputies on the spot and draw:ng his revolver started to forco entire possession of the store. The deputies laid hands on McGuire and others of Lis friends and trou- ble began. Barrel mallets, chairs and any- thing that was not nailed down were picked up, but just ag the fun commenced OMficer Munroo entered the side door. He com- pelled the constable to show his authority and demanded an instant cessation of hos- Uilities. At last accounts the deputies were on guard for the attaching partics and McGuire ud Lis attorney held the fort for te inters csts of the Omaha Wine and Liquor coms pany.
