Democrats Selze Th by the Tallplece and Nominate Oliver and Barstow. The democrats of Council Bluffs met last evening at the court house to put in nomi- nation two candidates for scnool directors. Since last Tuesday they have had serious doubts as to their ability to elect either of their nominces if chosen in the usual way, and thinking it botter to be sure of one ' demo than of none they espoused the nonpartisan scheme and nominated one democrat and one republican. A committee on resolutions was ap- pointed, consisting of R. N. Whittlesey, J. J. Shea, U. H. White, A, Kastner and ifenry Rishion. This committee retired and in a few seconds came back with a set of reso- lutions, which had been carefully drawn up on Mr. Shea's typewriter during the aiter- noon The substance of these resolutions was that the™democrats had come to a realizing sense of the harm that might result from having politics dragged into school matters and pledged * the democratie party to stick to the Idea, not only this year, but in all years to come. The resolutions were not at all acceptable to a good many of the delegates present, but they were adopted in spite of their protests, whereupon a large delegation from the Fifth ward, under the lead of Nick O'Brien, jumped up, put on their hats and overcoats, and left the convention room. The disuffected delegates having thus been gotten out of the way, the rest went to work to nominate eandidates, with the fol- 1 lowing result upon the informal ballot: John ‘ *. Ollver, 63; Dr. J. §.
