Mink s of the L and John W. Pacifie, ar- rived from the east yésterday morning via the Illinois Central, in from Sioux City by the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha. The visit of the receivers at this time is only to take up certain detail matters with Mr. Clark, and is not 1n th nterest of any scheme to obtain control of the Union Pacific, Denver & ( proverty, as erroneously stated by Chicago papers. Mr. Mink said to the ratiroad man of Tug BEE that the visit of Mr. Doane and himself had been in contemplation for some time, nd being in Chicago he induced Mr. Doane, who is one of the leading merchants of World's Fair City, to join him iu a trip to Omaha Speaking generally Mr. Doane said that business very quiet, auite in ke conditions of affairs they ing in the west, particularly along the line of the Union Pacific, with which they wero more intimately acquainted than with other rouds in the transcoutinental terri- tory. Interest on Union tic Bonds. “One of the most interesting questions which the receivers have to consider is the question of interest, some of which is in de- fault,” said Mr. Mink in reply to the re- porter's interrogatory. “Default has o Colorado Central 7s, are a very high grade of bonds, the Pacitic, Denver & Gulf consols. the Oregon Railway and Navigation consoli- dat2d 5s, the Kansas City & Omaha s, the Atchison, Colorado & Pacific 6s, the Atchi- son, Jewel County & Western s, in fact the Union Pacific s in default in respect of many obligations, including the Union Pacific, Denver & Gulf in- terest obligations due prior to the latter's segregation from the Union_Pacific per, up to the independ receiversnip oraered by Judge Hallett. +One of the serious defaults which reqy attention on the part of the receivers is that of the Oregon Railway and Navigation com any's dividend, 0 ¢ 000, payuble January 1, of which $150,000 is payable to individual holders, the balunce to the Oregon Short Line compan, he scheme and purpose of the Union receivers is to pay the first mortgage 1s we rerch it, and to so copduci th f the company thut default is pro- vided against in all cases which might work to the dissdvantage of the system.” Work of Reorganizition, Asized as to the progtess of the reorganiza- tion committee, Mr. Mink said tnat there were many suggestions, the plan upon which ction is invited at the hands of congress being nlaced for the moment with a subcom- mittee, composed of J. Pierpont Morgan, Calvin S, Brice, General Fitzzerald and A, A. H. Boissevain, the litter representing the foreign holders. “I'tis committee,” said Mr. Mink, as he glunced at an array of figures ruaning into the millions, “has had-almost daily meet- ings since its appointment by the reorgan- ization committee, of which Senator Brice is chairman. One'of the pluns suggested is that hatever amount :shall be finally agreed upon as to_capitalization, the bonds shall be placed at such figures as will com- mend themselves to the holders, whether of final mortgage or high grade bonds on the one hand, or the inferior or lower grade bonds on the other. Of course the amount of_capitalization- may amount to as much as §230,000,000, but whatever the amount the scheme of scaling adopted by the committee will probably commend itself to_the holders of the bonds. 1t would be difficult to hazard a guess as to when_ghe reorganization committee will complete 1ts work, as there are many conditions to be taken 1nto consideration in reorganization of so vast a system.” Expect the Gulf to Come Lack. Of the present status of the Union Pacific Denver & Gulf system, Mr. Mink stated that he had no doubt but that eventually the Gulf would return to the fold. “There are many reasons why this shouid be. We are prepared to say that some mis- takes have been made by the Union Pacific in locating roads, but these mistakes are no worse than other roads have made under iige circumstances. This, I bolieve, is generally appreciated by even our critics.” There is at present no effort being made on the part of the Union Pacific to induce a return of the Gulf; that matter will regulate itself.” Passing to a consideration of the Oregon Railway and Navigation company affairs, wore in detail, Mr. Miok said: “Ther three issues of bonds on the Oregon Ruilway and Navigatiou company property. Under one of these, viz: the consolidated, fault has taken _ place, many the bouds of this issue held in Germany. The German holders common with tt holders in th have appoiuted a committ under the dir n of which gherty & Cook, who have r »d from Portlana, are working. The bon iers’ committee has had several conferences viith the receivers in New York, and it is constantly and thoroughly apprised with reference to all matters appertaining to the Oregon Railway and Navigation sys- tem.” Messrs.
