CONNECTION Plans for Bullding Lines to Place the Wabash on Its Feet-Halt Line to He Double Tracked to South Omaha ~Rail Notes, While every effort Omana capitalists to has been made by build a line of railroad from Fort Dodge, Ia., to Omaha without ma terial benelit, there is now a possivility of tne metropolis securing a Baltimore & Ohio connection and that at no distant day Mr. J. F\ Baraard, formierly president and general wavager of the Ohio & Mississippi raiiroad, also general manager of the K. C. road, has been interesting himself lately o extond the Quincy, Omaha & Kansas City railway from Trenton, Mo., its present te minus, to Pattonsburg, where it is to con- nect with the Omaha & St. Louis, a part of the Wabash system. ‘The distance from Trenton to Pattonsburg is ouly forty miles and should this road be built would open up for Omaha the eutire northern portion of Missouri, which is now like a slated book. With this extension completed 1t would be only necessary 10 build a line from Quincy to Beardstown, the terminus of the Ohio & Mississippi, which would bring Omaha 150 miles nearer Toledo and the Atlantic coast, the Ohio & Mississippi having a close trafc arrangemept with the Baltimore & Ohio. Matters have gone so far that a company will shortly be organized looking to these extensions, and when uc mllvlrshml it is asserted the line will be pushed to com- pletion fram Trenton to Pattonsburg as well as from Quincy to Beardstown. Without the Tienton-Pattonsburg con- nection’ the Wabash is like a pig in poke, but with it the possibilities of a vast sys- tem of rails to the southeast become roseate when the maps are closely examined. A railroad to Duluth is desirable and will eventually be built, but a line of rails to the Auantic coast shorter by nearly 200 miles than any trunk hne from Omaha, is some- thing that deserves the serious consideration of every business man who does business in Baltimore, Philudelphia and New York. ‘I'he building of this road would also insure a Mississippi river outlet that is now de nied vhe metropolis of one of the largest a ricultural states in the union. BELT LINE INPROVEMEN The Rond Will Be Double Tracked and Connect with the New Bridge. For several months past the Omaha Belt Line company has felt the necessity of king its eight miles of system, but devression seriously interfered with the sonsummation desired. Lately, however, business has greatly increased, und as there have been several accidents on the line, a large force of workmen have gone to work to grade the roadway for a double track, and two mites of rails have been put down between Omaha and South Omaha. Most of the grading is done for the balance of the six miles, and just as soon ascom- pleted the steel will be put in place. There are several very big cuts and fills to make, especially about Walnut Hiil, and two new steel bridges will have to be put in before the improved service is realized. When the improvements ave made it will put the Belt Line ona par with-roads run- ning dircct to South Omaha, although the line is a bit round *Robin Hood's barn.” With a clear right of way and a double track the Belt Line people ought to be in a position to make it very interesting for the Union Pacifie, Burlington, Rock Island and Milwaukee. W. H. Bush, assistant engincer of the Union Pacific, yesterday morning stated the improvements would probably reach £150,000 and would reduce to a minimum the dangers from accidents whieh from a single track line were seemingly impossible to avoid. But Mr. Bush was not in Omaha yesterday on business connected with gradivg and double tracking the Belt lme, but came to confer with the engineer- ing department of the Omaha Bridge and Terminal company in regard to making a connection with the Belt line to South Omaha, When this is accomplished both Belt line and Omaha bridge people will be a decided factor in the hauling of freight from Council Bluffs to South Omaha. though uothing definite has been de- cided upon, 1t is thought the connection will be made near the Missouri Pacific round house, REMOVED THE BOYCOTT. Friendly Relations Established Between the Canadian and Southern Pacific. Cuicsco, Nov. 27.—The Southern Pacific has removed its boycott against the Cana- dian Pacific. It ancounced today that it would take all busincss tendercd by the Caunadian cifie, provided it was tendered At the regular established rates.
