COMMERCIAL AND FINANCIAL Big Increase in the Visible €upply Demeral- igad Prices, WHEAT OPENED ABOVE SATUSDAY FIGURES Later When it Was Discovered that the Indicated Supply Was Nearly One Thou- sand Bushels Heavier than Antiol pated Quotations Deelined, Cnicaao, Nov. 20.—The big increase in the visible supply, fully 1,000,000 bu. more than was expected, was a depressing factor in the wheat market today, but was par tially offset by the reasonably large clear- ances. Increase on ocean passage was light at 088,000 bu. Northwestern cars were light at 1,47 When the market had its break Singer be came a buyer of May. Severens became a buyer of December. Corn closed firm and without change, after raling weak for the groater part of the day. Provisions were very weak, but recoverod toward the close, in anticipation of an early heavy decline Wheat opened about 'ye above Saturday close, became weak and prices declined rallied #c, receded lyc, advanced %c and closed within lgc of the top figures. The stronger opening was influenced by better Iinglish cables and the markev weakened on the prospect of a rather liberal increase in the visible supply, but there was no pressure to sell and a firm feeling developed. Corn at the start was a little firmer, room traders buying, anticipating that wh would do better, but early strength v short duration,’as the offerings incre nud the pr sradually sagged down ! the bearish attitude of shippers and vers, together with the bright, cool weather, being too much for the bulls and the market had little support for a while. Wheat sold off on anucipated large receipt At the decline there was some buying to cover shorts and the price rallied ¢ and at the close had gained from e to 14e. There was a moterate trading in oat weak feeling and the market declined %¢ eatly, but later when the other grains cd, oats followed and prices reacted 1;¢ and closed steady. In provisions there was some firmness on lighter receipts of hogs than ex- pected and better prices at the yards. The offerings began at once and as on previous there was no support. Pork broke most, with a slump from $12.85 on the early bulge to $12.22'¢ and a rally of 20c to £12.4215 for January at the close. anuary lard sold at §7.82!¢ "down to £7.70 and rallied Ribs, January, sold down from closing a1 86,721, > ceipts for tomorrow: Wheat, 3 corn, 600 cars; oats, 285 cars; hogs, 18,000 head, The leading futures ranged as follows: Y | Opon. | High. | 7 mm’ 074 Cush quotations were as follows: ILovi—Nominal, very weak, AT N pring. 59 iic; No. 2 red, 590, iN—No. 2, 3b3c. rs—No. 2, 27@271{c; No. 8 white, 2802014 No. 2, ddc. New York, Nov. 20.—The business on the Stock exchange was lizht and the specu- lation unintecesting. Before 11 o'clock the temper of the s pecu- lation became firm again and an advance of from ' to 11 per ceut was recorded, the latter 1n Sugar, but shortly after thut hour adrive was made ou Distilling.
