This organization is one of the strongest of the trades unions and_has representation in every city in the union. Fully 300 dele- gates will be present at the convention to be held in this city. The convention was lo- cated in this city through the efforts of George Clark and Perry Ellis, who ropre- sented the Omahia union at the last conven- ton held in Baltimore in Jagnury. One of the questions to_be considered at the coming convention will be the advisa- bility of making the eight-nour rule an in- ternational one, Many of the unious in di ferent states and cities now enforce th eight-hour rule and there is a growing senti- ment in favor of making the rule unive 1. Committees of the local union are alveady making arcangements for tho proper enter- tainment of the visiting delegates, The past year has veen a dull one for the brick- layers of Omaha and the union is notin shupe to meet the expenses of the conven- tion and will call upon the business men of the city for contributions to a fund which will bo “expended 1 the payment of neces- sary expenses incident to the convention. Wasnixaroy, Nov, There is much complaint among exhibitors over the great delay in awaraing the World's fair medals to successful competitors. Congress has received numerous lotters on the subjoet, but inquiry at the treasury doos not reveal any indication that the medals will be ready for distribution for some months to cor As many of the exhibitors expect to make the most of their medals in an advertising way, some of them desiring to incorporate the desien in new trade marks to be adopted, they complaiu that the great delay will rob them of much of the commercial a vantage which they expected to reap 1n turn for the heavy oxpenses involved in muking a Workl’s fair exhibit rdens for and it I% still even unc work may not_be done by the l'uimt iint. ‘The plan of the tre which is ¢ detailed and contempi als of ant workmanship, would ¢ four or five months. as it would necessitate tno stamping of some of the medals 400 or 500 times. But choaner provess of manufac- ture has been suggested which would make it possible to turn out the 25,000 in a fow wecks. This does not meet with much favor, however, and uniess the indigoant exhibitors briug the matter to the attention of congress ivis not likely the medals will be ready be- re next summer. e ‘Ureasury department suggests that the delay is attribatable to Mr. ‘Paateher or the designer, who should have furnished tho designs months ago, in order thit the manu- facture might huve been begun at a much carlier date. ——— ¥ A BUY'S IGNORAN ook Laland Wre attle Fellow's 1 Cuicaco, Nov. 13 k Wus Caused by nocent Play, 'ho cause of the wrecle of the suburban train on the Rock Island last Wednesday, the victims of whieh now num- ber twelve, was brought to light today when C. €.
