HOSTS READY FOR BATILE Omaha's Registration Siows a Small Aggragate Increass, DEMOCRATIC WARDS HAVE HAD A LOSS intned Cor mplete for Dis- Republican Ward: pond- Ingly—Arrange tributing Ballots and for Gathering R ents Despite the fears of a falling off in the registration 1n this city, occasioned by tho fact that the total number registered on tho first three davs sot apart for that purpose was hardly up to what it was a yoar ago, the whole number of registered voters in the city of Omaha, as shown yestercay when the books were returned to the office of the city clerit from cach of tha eighty-e:ght vot- ing precincts, was 20,130, an increase over 1ast yoar of 142 The gain, although slight, 1s mostly in the republican wards and the bulk of the loss is in tho democratic strongholds, indicating a republican gain throughout the city Tha largest incrgass was in the Sixth ward, which comes to the front with a regis- tration of 3,110, an iucroase of 176 over last yoar, making 1t the largest voting ward. On Btraight party issues tho ward is overwhelm- ingly republican, The ward having the heaviest loss Is the First, which shows a falline off of 0, ana is regarded as properly democratic, The precinet with the greatest gain is tho Beventh precinct ot the llighth ward, a republican locality, which has 65 more than it had a year ago; and the ono showing the greatest falling off s the Fifth precinct of the Thira ward, which, Ii is almost unneces- sary to state, is in democratic territory. The total in the city of Omaha last year was 18,955, and tho voto polied in Douglas county was only 18,420, or more thau 1,500 less than the rogistration in the city of Omaha alone. One reason why the vote polled was so uch less than the rogistra- tion was undoubtedly because wauy dewo- crats refrained i going to the polis, owing to the withdrs.val of their nominee for the supreme bench, There is no such reason existing this year for anyoue re- maining at home, but on tho contrary, tho tendency of a prasiaential clection is to call out every vote, and it is believed that thero will bo polied in this city very near tho full registercd vote, and in Douglas county uot lesa than 22,000 votes.
