President Duvis said that at the matinee the city attorney took exceptions to scme rules of the committee, ke wanted Mr. Beindorff put upon the stund, which was something new 1n the way of trials, as it was a queer rule that requived the accused 10 O & witness to proicet himself. It wus the mayor’s auty to substantiate the charges and then let Mr. Beindorfi refute them. Criticized the Committee, Mr. Munro held that the committee had made a gveat mistake. 1f 1t had contined it- sclf to whatit was appointed to do thero would have been no treuble, but instead it went out to chase rumors aud every will-o’- the-wisp that was visible; if it was an hon- est committee it should submit a report that would prove that it was not in the white- washing business. Mr. Prince 100k exceptions to the remarks. The mayor had stultified bimself 1o bringing charges of whitewash and boodelism, and if the members of the committee had not gone into them they would have been d—n cowaras. Mvr. Munro insisted that the report should show what the ¢ mmittee had founa. M. Prince said that the committee was not ready, but when the report was made it would be full and complete. : Mr. MclLearie would hold no man guilty until proven so. So far there had been nothing in the charges, thouzn there were some people who wauted a verdict of guilty without any proof. The report was adopted.
