OMAHA DAILY BEE::! *ATUI{I)AY CLOSED UP BY CREDITORS Hetz:l's Grocery Venturss Prove too Big a Load to Carry. TWO STORES IN THE SHERIFF'S HANDS One of the Brothers Bought the Other Out and the Creditors Became Sus- plcious—Racing to Secure Attachments, There was alively hustle of Omaha jobbers Thursday night and the result was the clos- ing yesterday morning of the grocery stores that have been run by L. G. Hetzel and Het- zel Brothers, incluting the Mammnoth gro- cery, recently opened at the old Stonehill stand near tho corner of Sixteenth and Douglas streets and the store at the corner of Twenty-fourth and Cuming streets. The firat intimstion of difticulty was given Thursday night. when Dun & Co. informed their subscribers that L. G. Hetzel had given a bill of sale of tho Cuming street stock to P. C. Rude of Perry, Ia., who had in tura sold the stock to . J. Hotzel. Tho jobbers took tho clew promptly and at once began a ekirmish to scours their claims. Pax- ton & Gallagher and McCord, Brady & Co. nooled issues ana got District Clerk Moores out of bed at 4 o'clock yesterd morning and socured the necessary papers. The Citizen’s bank at Twonty -fourth and Cuming had 4 man out at the sume time hunting for L. G. Hetzel to get auother chattel morteage to secure an overdraft of BI85, He socured this aud an attachment on the stock was fssued yest:rany morning, the creditor atieging that the sale of the stock to Hetzel was fraudulent aad for tho purpose of defrauding the creditors. Tho claims filed so far against the Hrm are Moyer & . M. Steclo & Co Kireihbnom & Sons II witCo.. Allen Bros.. Total..... Tho mammoth store was openod on August 11 and did simply an enormous business from the start, Goods were sold at_astonishingly low prices and the place was crowdea from morning till night. L. G. Hetzel was the nominal owner. He placed a stock in the store at tno start of £5,000 and bought largely from nearly every aeaier in the city. Most of the goods were purchased on thirty days time and none of tho bills wera really due when the suits were commenced. This action was caused by the transfer of the Cuming street stock Thursiay. Hetzel could not be found yesteraay. having secured the goods from L, G. Hetzei in a trade. He says that L. G. Hotzel will probably meet all his obiigations, and would not have had any trouble at all if some of his creditors bad not become alarmea without reason and commenced suit for bills that wero not due. The sherifl’s deputies were kept yesterduy afternoon attending to the wants of the Hetzel ereditors, It was alloged that & quantity of the stock had been carted away ted Thursday night, und Deputy ctailed to invest * He residence at Tyyenty-fifth avenue, and also the of his father-in-law, but did not find a trace of the wissing £oods. L. G. Hetzel could not b2 found last even- Ing. It was stated at his vesidence that ho bad not been there during the day and all knowledge of bis whereabouts was denied. ; v il ST ‘When weak, weary and worn out, Hood's Sarsuparillu is just the medicine to ' restore your strength and give you a good appetite. ) HORSE WHIPPED HER. busy A Wronged Girl Assaults th of He 3 Mrs. Jobn O’Connor, 6) years old, dressed In clothes which recall the photographs of our grandmothers, weut into the polics court yesterday morninz asking for a warrant for the arrest of a girl who had horse whipped ber.
