Statisties of Production During the Past Revenue Year, The Western Brewer of Chicago pube lishes tables showing the total produc tion of beer in the United States during the special revenue year ended April 0, 1892, It 1s seen by the oflicial statis- tics that the total production of beer during the year upon which rovenue was collected amounted to 81,475,519 barrels—a net inerense of 1,453,519 bur- rels over the production of the previous year, or a little over 4.7 per cent. This increase in the production of beer scoms to keep very even puce with the coun- try’s growth in population. The aver- age annual consumption is a little less than & half barrel for every man, woman and child in the United States. When this corsumption isspread over the entire year it does not betray an excessive addition to malt liquor among the American people. But while multitudes drink no beer at all, a great many peoplo evidently get more than a reasonable share of the amber- colored liquor. [Pirst in the list of beer producing es is New York, with a total of 9,512,540 burrels—or more than one- fourth of the total production in the United States. Pennsylvania comes next witix 3,120,733 barréls. Illinois fol- lows with 2,888,364 barrels; then comes Ohio with a production of 2,650,205 bar- rels, and Wisconsin closely in the rear with 2,605,688 barrels. Following in order, Missouri produced 2,014,086 barrels; New Jersey, 1,757,633 pavrels; Mussachusetts, 1,095,966 barrels, and Cadifornia, 776,05 barrels, In six states of the union only no beer is produced at all—namely, Arkansas, Florida, Maine, Missigsippi, North Carvolina and Ver- mont. lowa had an output of 114,523 barrels of beer last year—an increase of 8,580 over the previous year, in spite of the prohibitory liquor law. Kven Kan- sus, setting its prohibitory code at de- finnce, produced 1,650 barrels of beer last yoar, and duly paid the tux upon it to the United States collector of internal revenue, * In ty.
