He was good looking, well edu- cated, knew the world, talkea well and soon became popular. He was continually writ- fug letters und though he has done no work bas always had money in his pocket and dressed well. Letters found in his valise in- dicate that he had friends, p>rhaps brothers ana sisters, who ware interested 1n his wel- fareand who advauced him money from time to time. They mention a Phil, a Nettie and Kate, but tell nothing of who the writers are except thatthoy are educated, refined peovle and very fond of the man whosoe life's tale is told. One of them is written on the letter head of a Boston business man named J. M Waitt, and the coroncr has telegraphod him to notify the dead mau’s friends. Auother written on a half sheet of paper evidontly bad an inclosure. It has no date and road: *Dear Georzo—Just got your letter July On dear! What will you dof think that I cannot do more. 5. M. Some time ugo Mr. Prince gave orders that ho should bo furnishod no moro drinks At the bar, and since that be had taken jugs and bottles to his room and emptied them there. Some weeks ago ho was taken sick aud treated by Dr. Somers, who could not understand why his patient’ did not improve until under his'bed weve found four dozen ewpty flasks. Over $2) worth of whisky had been drunk while be was under the caro of the physician, Mouday morning Clark went out at about 10 o'clock oud roturaed with a parcel under his arm which, it is now knowu, con- talned o ball gallon of whisky. Ior many woeks a majority of the council has realized that the department of the city government presided over by P. W. Birk- bauser was travoliug too slow. IKicks have come from numerous quarters, the kickers cnarging that the chairman was not doing his duty. Theso reports, in their round s, reached the ears of the council- men, and last night Chairman Specht of tho committee on paving, curbing and guttering introauced a resolution pro- viding for a thorough and complete 1nvos ti- gation of the affairs of the office of the Board of Pubiic Wor The charges aro broad and sweoping.
