It is nothing less than the picking up of an entire Chicago church sorvice, preacher, choir and organist, and placing them on the platform of the great amphitheater here. Rev. Dr. Thomas, the famous liberal divine, will preach, the Tmperial quartette wili sing, Mrs. Nellio Bangs Skelton will serve as pianist. This minister with these same singers and with Mrs. Skel- ton as accompanist furnished the serv- icesat tho People’s church in Chicago for three years, and caused Hooley’s theater to” be packed every Sunday. The reproduction of this popular service arouses much intorest in the partici- pants. .One of the members of the quartette writes that they are making special preparations for next Sunday, and they promise the finest musical service which they can command. City Attorney Van Dusen’s opinion, given to the council on the question as to whother that boay has jurisdiction in making the levy for school purposes, is to the effect tnat South Omaha 15 still a city of the second class ns ragards school matters, ana tho council is therefore without jurisdiction in the matter. In accordance with Mr. Van Dusen's opin- ion the council will not interest itself far- ther in the proposed levy of 123§ mills for school purposes, and will raise no objections to the Board of Education proceeding in the matter in accordance with the charter of a city of the second class.
