THE OMAHA DAILY HEE Ly oo MONDAY, JUN 6, 1892, COMING FAST ONTHESTRETCH Omaha Strikes Her Seconl Wind and is Goivg After the Leadors Again. SECOND GAME WON BY HARD BATTING Ohartey Dewald Gets & Dose of the Same Medicine Served to Dad Clarke—Col bus, M polis and Milwaukee Are Also Winnors, Omaha, 11; Toledo, 5. Columbus, Kansas City, 2. Milwaukes, 10; Indianapolis, Minneapolis, 10; Fort Wayne, 5. FTER ALL WE may eot a place in the race. Omaha took her fourth game from Toledo yester- day afternoon, and took it without turning o bhair. The usual Sunday crowd was out— three thousand or theresbouts — and they were out for the stuff and got 1t. The Parson worked hard for his team, but 1t was love's labor lost. The Rustlers began tho troublo 1n the very first inning, and never let up until they had the game clinched, Charlio Dewald was 1n tho box for tho Pirates, He was sorely handicapped by lame thumb and uncle’s children dallied with him at will. Fourteen corking hits and eleven runs was the size of it. On the other hand Mr. Darby, from Cali- fornia, kept tho Ohioans guessing, and while they succesded in meoting him safo eight tiwes, ho kept their hits scattered in such o manoer that they might as well not have been made. Of their five runs nota single one was earned. Was a Very Lively Tussle. The game, however, smsithstanding its lopsidencss, was lively and entertalning from start to finish, and the big crowd cheerfully sat 1t outuntil the twenty-sevonth frog merchant rolled a littls lazy one down to Gilks and was thrown out at first, McQuaid’s umpiring was a brilliant feature of the coutest, not one of his decisions, and there wasa half dozen mighty close ones, being questioned by cither side. His work has been the best ever seen on the Omaba grounds, not overlooking the ex- ‘ploits of Gaffney, the king, lddie Hayes caught another glorious game, backstoppiog, throwing, hitting and scoring us though ho was brought up on just that kind of gruel, Vickery made tho star play of the after- noon on'a long fly from Nicholson’s club. He ran for and got under it nicely, but just us ho was about to clasp the descending sphere the greensward flew up and smashed him in the mug. It was a funny fall and the crowd didn’t get over iv all tho afternoon. Tho cranks can make up their minds that the Omauas have again struck their gait, They are hitting harder than ever before, running bases like quarter horses, and field- ing out of might. They have taken a big brace and should be encouraged by the most liberal patronage. Uncle says ho'll make it three straight this afternoon and then comes Columbus. If he beats the Buckeyes two out of three ho can have Box Butte county for a little farm all by himself. Thav's right; I'll give it to bim myself, ‘Che score: OMAHA. » Shelbeok, ss. SOUTH OMAHA VICTORIOUS, Tremendous Tug-of-War Won by the Ger- man Carpentors, The long-talked-of match fug-of-war pull for a stake of $1,000, between the Swedes of Omaha and the Germans of South Omubha came off last night av Exposition hall, There was an immense crowd in attendance, and the pull was one of the most stubborn and ex- citing on record, the South Omahans win- ulog in just one hour and tweaty-five min- uf ‘I'noy took the lead from the very start and were never headed. The Swedes worked like Trojaus, but the doughty Dutch were too much for them and finally pulled out & victory. Besides the stakes, the gross receipts of the house, which footed up $1,200, went to the winners, so the night's work for the quintette of Germans on tho rope was not a bad one, The Swodes greatly disappointed who are now busily engaged figuring out bow it all - peved.
