NEBRASKA CROP PROSPECTS Very Little Corn Has Yot Been Planted in the State, GRAIN MEN OF DIFFERENT OPINIONS With Good Weather from Now on it 18 Possible to Grow a Good Corn o ohras ‘armers Now Planting. The question heard on every hand among business men of all classes is: Whatare the prospects for a corn crop in Nebraskal Grain men are watching the situation very closely, and while they differ materially in thelr views, the goncral opinfon appears to be that with good weather from now on it 1 possible to grow & very faircrop in Ne- braska this season, Here is what some of the grain men say Janies Walsh: The corn crop in Nebraska 18 in the most critical condition that it hias beecn since 1 came to tho state eighteen years ago. In my opiuion, the temperature is too low to get a good stand of corn from the present planting. Un- less wo have exceptionally good weather from the present dato we caunct expect to have even an averago crop, However, Ne- braska’s chances for a crop are much better than any of the eastern states, and any corn that may be raised in Nebraska will com- mand fancy prices, as the rapid sdvance in Chicago during the pist threo days would indicate. The Nebraska farmers that put forth tho greatest efforts to raise a crop are bound to get a big price forit. I believo that Kansas and Nebraska ave the only states in which it is possiblo to raise any- thing like an average crop, as thy ground in these states is more rolling than in others. C. C. Crowell of the Crowell Lumber and Grain company, Blair: The weather during the past few days has boen good for plant: Ing. The members, however, thought they would bt ter tako time to consider tho matter, and for that reason final action upon the resolution was postponed until this morang. The troublo is tight here: Some weeks ago tho council passed an ordinance instruct ing the board to prepare the specifications for paving and then to invite bids on tho same, Following out these instructions tho board and the city engincer prepared the specifications with a ten-year guarantee on stone, brick and asphalt. The specifications passed to the eouncil, and by that body wero approved. Soonafter bids wero received sud approved.
