DETAILS OF HIS COWARDLY CRIME Indignant Citizens Threaten to Lynch Him ~A Mother and Her Daughter Killed to Satiate flis Desire for Ven- geance—Notes and Gossip. James Dooley, who was mentiened in the telegraphic columns of Tur Bikas veing suspected of the murder of Mrs. William and daughter, was captured Thursday night at Villisca and was taken to Council Bluffs last ovening for safo keeping. The murder was poculiarly revolting in its nature, and the people of Corning, where the murdever was first taken for keeping, were so wrought up over the bloody affair that it was with ty that thoy could be kept from tear ing down the jail and sending lim to glory over a tight rope. Sheriff J. H. Eldridge of Adams county was afraid to risk keepiug bl 8o near the scene of the tragedy more than_ one night, and so took him to the Biuffs last evening over the Burlington. Soon after Dooley was put into the steel cell in the county jail ho was seen by & Bre roporter, to whom be said he would not talk, as he haa been warned by his attorney not to tell any of the particulars of the affair. He then proceeded to make a full confession of the horriblo crime. The details of the con- fossion have been put in writing by the prosecuting attorney of Adams county and Doolo; aftixed bis siguature, so that when he has his trial there will be plenty of evidence agaiust him, Dooley stated that, Mrs, Coons had abused him on account of nis failure to koep the cattle shut up, and he had decided to kili her. He struck her two blows on the head with a heavy steel padlock, and after she had thus beon rendered unconscious he fired six bul- lets into hee brain from a revolver. Soon after tho littie 10-year-old daughter ot tho murderea womnan came in crying, and he killed her in the same manuer as he disposed of her mother. When the affair took placo Mr. Coone was away from home and it was not discovered what had been done until he eame homo Ihursiay afternoon, nearly twenty-four hours -later. The body of the murdered womun was found tied to the bed and a puysician who made an examination said wat beyond a dount Dooley had made o criminal ussauit upon her before putting an eud to her ife. Long beforo the shocking discovery was made by Mr. Coons Dooloy had takon a team of horses and driven twehty-five miles over the almost impassable roads to Villisca, where he was captured. The murderer claims to be only 16 years of age. Ho has tno reputation at tome of being somewhat stupid, but has an nlmost ungovernable temper, which is probably re- sponsible for his prosent predicament. Judge Towuneof tho Third Jdistrict hus given tho sherifl of Adams county permission to keen Dooley in the Pottawattamie count jail until such time as he thinks he can b brought vack with safety. Ho will have prelimivary hearing av Prescott, waere th murder occurred, on the 2id. ey MAY SA A Few Htems of Hosiery and Underwear Of- feved at the Boston Store, Council Blutis, T, During Their May Sale, HOSIERY.
