Morearty has been called for trial and the attraction in Judwe Davis' court promises to draw like a mustard plaster. Then it_went to the council whero it was aporoved and the amount went into tho appropriation ordi- nence which was passed. Rumors were set afloat that boodlo was boing used and when tho grand jury con vened tho matter was taken up and fuvesti- gated. The result was that tho indictment roturned set forth the statement that More- arty, for the sum of §2,200 had told Squires that’ he would seothe bill was allowed. They stated that'they did not expect the mo- tion would bo sustanied, but it would givo them & chance to go to tho suprome court on error, providing that on the trial the jury re- turncd a verdict of guilty “The motion states that Judgo Scott's chargo to tho erand jury was inflammatory and anarchistic in its character; that he at- tempted to prejudice tho minds of the grand jurors when he stated that to throw a stons in almost any direction it was almost certain to hit a boouler, The attorneys in the caso say that thoy do not expect to reach the merits of tho caso before next iweek, ns it will take several days to secure twelve jurors who havo not heard of the case or formed their opinions, Other Court Matters, In Judgo Ferguson’s court the case of James K.
