C,, Jan. 15.—The census bureau bas issued a bulletin upoa the subject of iwrrigation in Montana, Itis shown that in that state there are 3,706 farms that are irrigatad, out of a total number of 5,66+, The total urea of land upon which crops were raised by irrigation in the census year end- g May 31, 1800, was 850,582 acres, in adci- tion to which there were approximately 271,000 acres irrigated for crop and grazing purposes. The average size of the irrigated farms, or more strictly the irrigated portions of farms on which crops were raised, is ninety-five acres. The average first cost of water right is $4.03 per acre and the average cost of preparing the soil tor cultivation, in- cluding " the purchase price of land, is $0.54 peracre. 'ne average present value of the irrigated land of the state, including build- ings, etc., is reported as #9.50 per acre, showing @u apgarent profit, less cost of building, of £35.33 per acre. 'The average annual cost of water is 95 cents per acr which, deducted from the avcrage anoue value of products per acre, leaves an aver- age annual return of $12.01 per acre. In this investigation the census office restricted irself to lana on which crops were actually raised by irrigation auring the year 1880. Farms and stock ranches irrigatea merely for grazing purposes aroe not taken into account except a statement as to their approximate area. ot No gripping, no nausea, no pain when De- Witt's Little karly Risers aro taken.
