KEver since last winter Mr. Shaeely’s health has been poor, it haviog veen impaired by a serious attack of la grippe. Mr. Sheely was (2 years of age and camo to Omaba in 1839, after having been running on a Missouri river steamboat. By trade he was a candy maker, but after locating in this city he, together with his brother John, opened & butcher shop which grew iuto a pori_packing business of cousiderable mag- nitude, He was also idedentified with tho volunteor fire department and for two years. from June, 1803, 10 1870, he was chief of the department. Ho was also fire chief n short time in 1874 when the present chief, Jack Galligan, relioved him. A few pights ago he was elected troas- urer of the Veteran Firemen's association.
