Bockman of Omaha called at the police station yesterday morning and com- plained that a horse, harness and wagon had been stolen from his place. Oficer Wells went with bim in the direction 1 which the thief was supposed to have gone and over. to0k the cutfit near the “Four Mile House" on the asylum road. There were two of the thieves, and they had the horse and narness which had been stolen from Bockman, The wagon, howaver, had disappeared, and in its place was an old buckboard that was just on its last legs and lisble to fall to pieces at any time They also had a horse which did did - not veloug to Bockman, nor could the thieves give any satisfactory account of where they got it. Strange Actions of a Wor Warden Home. Havover, N. H., Sapt. 80.—At 0 o'clock Monday night the door bell of Farmer War- den’s house (the home of Almy's victim) was rung by a woman who said as the door opened: “Hero is a lady who wants to stay all night. The visitor had on astylish hat witha veil drawn over her face und wore a long circular reaching to the floor. The stepped forward at once into the house and without any preliminary said: I came up here to stay tonight. I want to see Christie's room and sleep in her bed. I come us a friend.” The family was startled but requested her tositdown. They asked the object of her visit, but she said she was very tired and would expiain all in the morning, Oscar Warden of Monroe, N. H., brother of A. H. Wardeo, noticed that the visitor had & somewhat ‘masculine appearance and his suspicions were aroused. While sitting on the sofa he suddenly seized ber hand and after a struggle in which the intruder do- veloped ilar power unusual tor a woman, the circular was removed disclosing a person dressed ina Prince Albert coat, vest aud trousers, with a white bosom suirt [he intruder thien declared that she was a woman and lier name was Dr. Mary Walker. The woman, who had become much excited refused to talk, further thau to ay that she had come to save Andrew Warden's life, nd would make further statements in the morniog. Neignbors wera calleu and sat up with the woman until morning. The family this morning could not be convince that the person was notaman. Mr. Warden said that no woman of her size could possess her strength aud besides the lai naeck, hands feet and the voice was masculine. He felt so contigent of this, and that there were con- federates about, that hie and a neighbor stood guard all night'grmed with shotguns, The members of the family were so excited that they also sat up all night. About?2 a. m. steps were heard by tho outside watchers, but the bark of Warden's dok frightened away whoever made them. he alleged Mary Walker is about five feet five inches tall, 40 years old, with very dark hair, rather long, with traces of gray, has a short fuce with 10 sign of a beard, and wears steel corsets and spectacles. She has written Mr. Warden several letters. To identify herself, she showed two recéipts for regi tered letters dated Boston, September 18, bearing the name of Dr. Mary Walker and some bagyage checks from a Boston hotel, also §75 in monoy. Two or three persons who claim to know Dr. Mary Walker claim that this person is not she.” Solicitor Mitchell telagraphed to have her teld until his arrival.
