Tue organization is to be known as tho Omaha Railway Employes' club, and is a branch of an association of railway omployes | which is being formod all over tho western part of the United State The objects of the organization aro stated in the following preamblo to the constitu- tion, ““Tho highest court in several of tho states has decidod thit the railroad commission may wake, accorving to the present laws, any rate they pleaso for the railroads, whether it pays for the service or not. A majority of the legal voters make the commission. Tho rail- road employes are votors and have the right to help to make the ratos. We are entitled to a fair day's wages for a fair day's work, and we cannot get, or expect it, unless the roads get a fair price for services rendered. The tendency of Iato is towards a heavy ro- duction in rates. Those who make such de mands of the ronds do not stop to consider the vast army of employos and their families who are airectly dependent upon the earn- ings of the road which empioys thom. This condition has assumed such proportions, that our railways are getting neither fair nor liv- ing prices, and, as a result, their employes cannot get fair wages or steady employ ment. United States Attorney Buker has sprung another international question which con- cerns people in Omaha and the city of Sligo, Ircland, and s now in the hands of tho at- torney goneral, the secretary of state, the consul at Dublin and the mayor of Sligo. The history of the case is brief. It appoars that the law firm of Kennedy, Learned & Barnard had occasion to send a deed to the city of Slio, Ireland, to be properly acknowl- edged.. They were informed by some means that o man named Tigue, resiaing in Sligo, was a_magistrate or court clerk, or some: thing of the sort, by which office he was clothed with the proper legal authority to execute titles, otc. The document was mailed to Tigue, at all events, and with it went something like $50 to pay for the sel vices of the ofticial who should have the deed properly acknowledged, Ina fow weoics the document roturned to the law firm and ap- poared to have been legally and properly ac- knowledged, but soon after it reached its des- tination the'lawyers learned that Tigue had been deposed from office prior to the time wheun he executed the deed. The document was, therefore, absolutely worthless and the work had to be ail done over. But the discovery that Tigue was a fraud did not return the &0 fee which ho had 50 cheerfully accepted as pay in full for his alieged ofticial services. The attornoys made complaint to Mr, Baker, he carried the case to the attorne: general, the attorney general drow tho atten- tion of the secretary of state to it, and Mr. Blaine referred it to the consul at Dublin. The cousul called the attention of the mayor of 5ligo to the offense, and Mr. Tigue is now, no doubt, being prosccuted for his criminal act in lue\nming an offico which he had no right to assume, for the purpose of dofraud- ing innocent parties, Mr. Bakor hed alotter from the attorney general the other day, stating that the case haa reached the mayor of Sligo and prosecu- tion would undoubtedly be instituted.
