At last the question was taken under advisement hy the court and his decision will be given this morning, If the evidence is admitted the case will not be completed until tomorrow: but if it is ruled out, it is probable that it will go to the jury today. 1. mall pill but a very good one. Youth and beauty chased the hours with merry fet and joy scemed to be uncoufined last night at the hivh school building. The cause of the festivities was the very successful attempt made by the teachers of the bigh school to entertain the semior class and members of the board of education, The arrangements for the reception were com- plete in every particular, and those who at- tended were evidently very much delighted with the pleasures of the évening, The first part of the evening was devoted to u literary entertainment in the form of a light German comedy. The play was given in the large assembly voom on the third fioor, 4 temporary stage huving been erec'ed, wil curtain and simple stage furniture aud'a fi place in the back. The play was a comical lovers' quarrel, in which a misdirectea letter fallng into the nands of a fealous lover came very near resultng in a duel, but a timely explanation smoothed the ruf- fled edges of discord aud rewstatea love and peaco as joiut rulers over all con- cerned. ‘I'ne leading cnaracters wero repre. sented by Mr. Charles Helgren, Miss Mary Walker, Mr. George Hess, Miss Mary Bechél and Miss Alda Miller. Ihe facilities for making it an interesting perforiauce was, of course, very poor, as the stage was small, but the work in many re- spects was very clever. Tho play was valu- uble as an illustration of the fiuency with whicn the young people were able to speak the German language. Throughout the entire play the language was very creditably and in many respects faultlessly spoke correct intiéctios nphasis and pronunciation observed in the lines spoken reflected much credit not ouly upon the performers but unon the teachors who have directed the students i their German studies. The play was pre pared under the direct supervision of Miss 8. A. Walker. When the play hud been finished the mem- bers of the senior class adjourned to the wide balls on the third floor, where an orchestra awaited the word to furnish time and melody for the merry waltz. The floor was soon pre- empted by “about thirty couples, who en- tered into the dance with genuine'zest, On the tioor below the hosts of the evening had provided card tables, chess, croconole, check- ers aug other luterestivg gawmes for those ‘The | J the intelléctual to the phy attractive ro building haa bean reserved for refreshments. To determine absolutely the power of an arc light requires a most thorough and careful test with the fiuest mstruments for the purpose that ar made. It requires a_current of forty-five volts ‘and mmuo and a half amperes to create a 2,000 canale power arc lignt.
