S10CKS AND BONDS, NEW Yonrk, June 8—The stock market today continued to show the uncertainty which bas become the principal fastor in the making of values for securities. and while some confi- denco was shown ut the opening und fraction= ally higher prices were established in the curly denlings, the improvement in duced realizations and tho sellin creased by an announce ta large sum of gold had been taken for exvort und that more would follow. This immediatoly caused notonly a reaction from the high prices of the opening, but caused small losses in all th o active shares. On the other hana the reported shipments of gold wus soon contradioted and a tull recovery followed, showing conclusively thut this influence alone keeps the mar- kot down and pravents a covering of loug standing shortinterests. The general accepted diagnosis of the situation is now that the ket will remain in the same dull and list- loss condition until the gold shipments are kuown to have ceased or some damage has been done to the growing crops. The latter seems to be the oaly sustalning influen e today. In the railroad list th was little or no feature after the occurance noted, and the industrials furnished nearly all the interest th was in the dealinz: Jersey Cenural sold Interest and the expiration of the time was slgnalized by o renowed weakness in the stock which at one tme was 814 per cent, Rumors unfuvorable to the orop situation were cireulated in the atternoon-and as they were accompanied by considerable pressure to sell, not only the stocks which might be af- fected by smull crops but many others as well, it is reasonable to supposo that the rumors hud a speculative origin.
